    RAM....

Because: Virtual memory is the use of a portion of the hard disk to swap out data when insufficient RAM exists to hold all such data.

This is a deffinition I got off google:

Simulated memory. When RAM is full, the computer swaps data to the hard disk and back as needed. See Swapping. VRAM (Video Random-Access Memory) - Dual-ported (two separate data ports) memory typically on a video or graphics card. One port is dedicated to the CRT and refreshes and updates the image. The second port is for the CPU or graphics controller and changes the image data in memory.

Do you have any programs running on startup? (ie, AIM, MSN, Steam, etc.) If alot of them are running try closing some.

So many posts, sorry. The easiest way to fix this is to go to go to:

My Computer>Properties>Advanced(Tab)>Performance Settings>Advanced(Tab)>Virtual Memory Change> Then set it to System Manage Size>Set

That is what I did before I got my RAM. So yeah. That always helps. That is for XP and for other systems you can do the same if you would like. It also helps, if you are running XP, to go and run the regular Windows GUI.

    512 should be fine.
You gfx card shouldnt give it problems, I had a bad one before no problems like this.

It is reccomended to set the virtual memory to 1.5 your physical memory. In your case, 768mbs virtual memory. System managed may be ok tho.

To stop more processes starting when you first log in, go to Start<Run- Type in msconfig

Go to the startup tab and stop any processes that you dont need, like aim, msn, steam etc as said.

I think that means it needs 4mb's or more set aside for VRAM

I forget how to change this exactly, should be in bios.

I am not 100% sure this will help, but it might...

When it gets to 100% your computer will slow down on the processes less used, such as Steam & MSN. This is why it appears slow when its just those processes.

for general use you want 4GB set aside for the video 64 or more for gaming.

more ram wouldn't hurt though, you'de be surprised at what 35$ worth fo ram and some software/registry optimizations could do.

    go to run>msconfig

click on the startup tab and uncheck any of the programs you dont want to startup.

    Scan for spyware

    Scan for adware

    Scan for viruses

    Defrag

Run a program called CLEAN UP http://www.stevengould.org/software/cleanup/

You shouldnt increase your vram by too much as that can just cause problems and unnecesarily take up HD space.

Hmm..I'd say use Ccleaner rather than that CleanUp program as it also has the reg cleaning and also its more popular so it might be safer..never heard of that one,
