or get a friend with a laptop that has a beastly hard drive... invite him over your house, transfer teh music via ethernet... will take about 4-6 hours (took my about 8ish to transfer 40 gb). hehe, i knew it was smart of me to make my first computer upgrade a 300 gb hard drive :-D
That is all I need to know. I can get a new hard drive 2morrow afternoon, but it's no use. My brother says he will just reinstall Windows 2morrow in the morning if I do not do it today.
I told him, but he says he just wants to get all this mess over with. We've spent the whole day trying to fix this. Our parents have got mad, etc, etc. He's pretty mad, too. I'm the one to blame, too, since I had downloaded some programs in the past that I probably shouldn't have. I just need to know that if only the files in the registry, Windows, Documents and Settings, Program Files, and all the windows directories will get deleted if I reinstall Windows from the disc that has the fancy autorun interface. Or will it delete everything from the C drive (I'm talking about the folder I have with the important stuff I have in the root of the hard drive). This makes me wonder: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/312369 It only mentions certain Windows folders when talking about data loss resulting from reinstallation on a system with Windows installed by the manufacturer. Please, whoever can answer my question and results in me reinstalling Windows without losing that folder, will be the one who is rewarded the most. Even if it just credits. =/
a reformat will delete everything. if you do something like system restore, i think it will only overwrite your system files.
No, not a reformat. That's what I don't want to do. I want to do this: http://pcsupport.about.com/od/pcrepair/a/reinstallxp.htm without losing that one folder in my hard drive. Hopefully, by doing that, everything will function normally again, since that one folder does not have any programs and the virus I had infected only programs.
i relize you dont want to do that... i was just clarifying what something like system restore and reformat do.
Oh well, I am doing it anyway. Thanks guys for the support. All of you guys helped. *sigh* Some people will be mad about not being to do a deal with me for the .psds I had there. I was talking about a reinstallation not reformat by the way.
I was going through the reinstallation process, but when the computer wants to boot via Windows Setup I always get a blue error screen. >_< I AM SCREWED!
"A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to computer. If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps: Check for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers. Check your hard drive to make sure it is properly configured and terminated. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.
