i think one reason it "relaxes" you is cuz you're not breathing air, you're suffocating your brain. probably causing a feeling of relaxation.
but the real reason is probably mental, like jay said, you want it to relax you, so it does.

again, im bot bashing smokers. jsut an observation

tobacco isn't THAT terrible for you, it isnt good, but the chemicals they pump into them in big companies is what #$@!'s you up.
back in the 1800's, that time period, tobacco was huge, and they didnt get lung cnacer and all die. it's the 1900's that have screwed it up.
although i dont promote it either unless u smoke natural cigs, w/out nicotine
