more ports/slots/etc. a bettter BIOS, the capacity to CO more, better quality parts, a better layout, greater efficiency, improved load times, better interfaces, lower latencies... that's more or less the only diferences.

    s-ata= serial ata:

'' Often abbreviated SATA or S-ATA, an evolution of the Parallel ATA physical storage interface. Serial ATA is a serial link -- a single cable with a minimum of four wires creates a point-to-point connection between devices. Transfer rates for Serial ATA begin at 150MBps. One of the main design advantages of Serial ATA is that the thinner serial cables facilitate more efficient airflow inside a form factor and also allow for smaller chassis designs. In contrast, IDE cables used in parallel ATA systems are bulkier than Serial ATA cables and can only extend to 40cm long, while Serial ATA cables can extend up to one meter.

Serial ATA supports all ATA and ATAPI devices. ''

if you bought it in an emachine, your motherboard will be crap, most companies like HP compaq, dell and emachines cheap out on components like the motherboard, but don't worry you should be fine.

also, as far as I know, the 3400+s only come on 754.

wait until you can get a dual core proc or a quad core proc for a decent price, right now, you processor is just fine and should alst a while.

unless you plan on getting a new gfx card or something you'll be more than fine and even then, you can pickup a few good AGP cards.

if you have a 6800GS, then you wo't be needing to upgrade your GFX card for a while. so don't worry what you have should last a while.
