Relativly simple question. I'm wondering if after you have a certain number of partitions perfoermance starts to get affected. I only plan on having 4 (maaaaaybe 5) partitions. Is this going to be any problem? Thanks
no, you can have as many partitions as there are letters (taking out A, B, and whatever your CD/DVD is on) There is no less performance, only why would you need 4 or 5? the most I would need is 2 or 3. unless you are running multiple OS's, like Windows and Linux. I, myself, would do 2 or 3, one for the OS, 2nd for drivers an software installers, and maybe third for backups...
lol Master kinda same as me 1. OS [100GB] 2. Vids/Multimedia Stuff/DVD/Games/Isos [60GB partition of above = 160GB] 3. Backup of everything [200GB - Physical] Ye dont matter how many you have but then again you only need like 3 maybe max 4ish
Well partition one: General windows installation for personal and work related stuff (web design, photoshop, general web browsing) partition two: Windows installation for Gaming only partition three: Linux installation just becuase i like playing around with linux partition four: General Storage of my files so I can reinstall any of the other windows partitions without having to backup many of my files (partition five: Test windows installation with deepfreeze where I can screw around with the OS all I want and not have to worry (to a certain extent)) <--doubtful to have Thanks for the help ^rep Edit: nvm, i ^repped you within the last 30 days apparently...
why bother with partition magic if you have raw partition space? what you did sounds good, but do not forget to have a small swap partition for linux if you have under 2 gigs of ram(1 may be fine, but still).
Well i do have (or will have, technically) 2 gigs, so no worries then ^_^ And its pointless to use partition magic, becuase I'm starting out with an entirly new hard drive thats already unpartitioned.
Hmmm I seriously dont think the OS drive needs all that much space because its only for the OS Id say 25Gigs max because your not gonna save your work on there, you should also have a partition for all your work and stuff. Here's how I layed out my 80Gb hard drive. [OS] 10Gb [Programs] 15Gb [Linux] 10Gb [Archive] 10Gb [Buffer] 25Gb [Temp] 5Gb The rest of the space I balanced out with all the drives. Though Im considering getting a bigger hard drive. ------------------------- Remember that the OS drive is for OS, drivers and there components. So if your forced to wipe the OS clean you wont kill off any of your personal files...
uhh, yeah. most games and progs these days take up at least a gig, so I'd upgrade to something bigger
spectre a lot of people liek choosing the defualt install locations for things... its easier 10 gb on the OS is insane unless you really mess with the windows registry.
