I was pondering around and I got to thinking about some processors. I was thinking that if someone would make a chip made out of diamonds then we could run at a Thz level. If you are thinking, "why?" Well, a diamond can channel electricity, it can also withstand a LOT more heat than any cilicon or metal. If we had diamond chips then we could make processor speeds crazy. We could factory produce the diamonds used (since we can do that nowadays) and everything would be AWSOME! What do you guys think of that?

how much money do you have to spend on processors? lol

yeah, all i can see is thousands of dollars spent on procesors, still, someones prolyl already don it, just a secret gov project

It would be factory produced diamonds.... kind of like in those $2 chains you find in Wal*Mart. The diamonds aren't fake, they are just man-made. ;)

yeah, diamonds conduct electricity better, BUT... that causes electromagnetic interference when the transistor size is shrunk down a lot. ever hear of snds(sudden northwood death syndrome)? same thing, but it happens the moment you first turn on the power.

if he did the person he read it from knew very little about computers. Diamonds are allready used in most processors and trust me, we are not going tog et a thousandfold increase in productivity by using diamonds simply because at the speed that the transistors would be switching on and of at that level you would get electric interference. also, silicon transistors rely on their semi-metalic properties for operations.

EDIT: after googling it, diamonds are superior choice, but don't expect a thousandfold increase in clock speed with out serious changes in core architecture. One other problem is the speed at which diamonds are produced, it would take like a decade to get enough to make a months worth of chips.

It would produce require too much power and would overload today capacitors.
