Well i was sat around today and the new came on and the first story they mentioned was that the government was trying to get a full ban on smoking so im sat there thinking "another stupid law from a terrible government" and then it dawned on me when did i stop liking my country because believe me i hate it with a passion I hate people who are racist in the name of britain i hate our police i hate everything to do with england and being patriotic so today i ask do we live in a day and age where patriotism is "unfasionable"?
i do have to agree with you but patriotism isnt always about being standing up for "your country" its about loving your country i do agree with the racism and the government comment but am i half patriotic if i hate racists and the government but love the countryside?
i hate the us because of george w bush. if he wasnt president their be a better ecomony. and 9-11 probally wouldnt have happened
Actually, in America, the Republicans ( I am one) are the ones who love their country, and Democrats hate it. It's the sad but truthful reality.
thats why i live in wales but we still have the stupid gov, but the smoking law should be put in place, its not that fact that i'm boved about people smoking away there lifes, but its afecting people around them. i think people from england are a bit too patriotic sometimes, but i supose not as bad as most white americans ( no affence america)
I dont think patriotism is unfashionable, but i do think that because of the goverment, patriotism is seen as bein racist to the others who live in the Country. For example, I live in England, and its perfectly acceptable for the Irish/Scottish and Welsh to be patriotic, but in England, its kinda frowned upon. And i think this is more to do with the goverment, and having to be politically correct. And there is a major problem with this in England. Hot cross buns (an Easter food in the UK, with a cross on the top) at some places, have been told to make them without the x on the top incase it offends anyone of a different religion. And also on the religion point. A girl in the UK, was told that she was not allowed to wear her cruxifix necklace, because it may offend ppl of other religions - However those of other religions are allowed to wear the tradional garments for their religion. And that is what really annoys me. I mean, after all, it is called ENGLAND for a reason, and i am by no means racist, but u know, some things have just gone to far. We're not even allowed to call xmas lights "xmas" lights, we have to call them winter lights! And as for the smokin ban, i have mixed emotions. I think there should be like designated places, ie in some bars and clubs, but perhaps not all as it is kinda like tradition to go in a pub for a cigarette/cigar and a beer.
Thank you thank you thank you. I never thought I would see another republican on GR. With all the democrats lurking around we have to hide.
No and Yes. Some things people will think are stupid that the government put outs, which is true. Others such as being attacked and going to war is totally patronizable. If you think we shoudln't have attacked Osama then you are not partranizing.
Your an idiot bush didnt cause 9-11 in anyway. Is patriotism popular today? No not by a long shot its the cool thing to hate everything about your country. I dont understand why but it is
I don't mind patriotism as long as it doesn't get too extreme. It's ok to prefer your own country, but not so much as you start to hate others for that soul reason
No, they both have equal love for their country, just different views of it. Republic, on one hand, prefer the old fashioned ways of the US (which we have swayed from) and wish to confine us to more and more restrictions, IMO. Democrats, on the other hand, seek to trust the US and open the possibilities for us. They vote to change what we have (like marijuana, abortion, etc.) to be either a) more broad or B) completely legal. I personally am a centralist (as most people SHOULD be). I dont make decisions based on the party I favor (tho I do favor democratics views in most cases), I make decisions for myself. Personally speaking, I think a full cabinet of Democrats would be an EXTREMELY bad idea. Humans without structure tend to not be able to withhold structure, thus creating chaos/anarchy. I also believe a full cabinet of Republicans would be an EXTREMELY bad idea. They would basically confine us to our houses and absolutely mandatory things, anything else would be illegal. The way we have our country is the way I believe it should be run (tho I believe we should have had a few more democratic presidents). We are in a nice centralist nation where certain things a majority vote should make it able to happen, which is what we have. Patriotism isnt so much of a big deal as much as George W. Bush is. I know quite a few christians, republicans and democrats, and I must say that 75% of them disapprove of GWB now. I bring christians to the matter because of GWB appointing new supreme court judges (as they retire around their current ages) and they projected that the 3 (i think about that) supreme judges they were planning on retiring, he would hire republican/christians in their place, giving the majority house of the supreme court to those with republican and christian beliefs. Seriously, the guy has no clue what hes doing... this is his thought process: "Im going to fulfill my daddies dream of capturing the dictator Saddam Hussein, in the middle of a US crisis, also causing a big war!" *US gets angered by GWB not finding Osama and the Al Quida first, then forcing their government on foreign countries* "OMG a huge city in the US was hit by a massive flood, I will send a few thousand troops to help out" *the US is even more outraged by the small amount of help while the other officers are still in Iraq, they are getting andthey let GWB know it* *tidal wave hits the foreign country, while the US is still flooded* "Ill send those troops and around 5-10x as many soldiers to the foreign country to help, thatll redeem me in my countries eyes!" *US even more outraged that he sends more help to help a foreign country than his own*
I hate Britain because of Blair and that twat jamie oliver, But i like it cos ive grown used to the cold now, couldnt go somewere warm
I don't hate my country..I am a democrat, and I love the U.S. I have a bone to pick with the government for different reasons, mainly how the African-American are treated.(Everyone remembers 9/11, but NEVER mentions Hurricane Katrina) It Really hurts me how were divided.. ~TSR
its more to do with the political spectrum for example democrats in america are seen as being "left wing" but by english standards theyre quite right wing. I guess i hate patriotism because its a right wing philosophy and i am an extremist left wing (socialist not quite communist)
