    Adding depth to your signature background

    In this tutorial you will learn how to make your sig background more interesting and add depth using colour adjustments, as well as experimenting with the brightness/darkness and contrast.

    It is vital in your background to have depth. (Depth meaning to make them stand out more and have more eye-catching detail) There are a lot of effective yet simple ways to do so using Photoshop.

    So anyways I’ll get on with the tutorial, now have your background open and ready to be made in to a sig, I’ll use my two minute brushing sig as an example, (See below) firstly go to LAYER – NEW ADJUSTMENT LAYER – CURVES and mould the curve in to a shape that you like the brightness/darkness on. Once you have decided what you like click ok, your result should have already made a massive difference to the levels of your background.

    If you haven’t already added colour to the background then read my multi-colouring a signature tutorial to get a nice mixture of colours. Next go to LAYER – NEW ADJUSTMENT LAYER – COLOUR BALANCE, and this of course will balance your colour in matter of highlights, midtones, and shadows.

    Already your background should look great, but a good suggestion is to go again to LAYER – NEW ADJUSTMENT LAYER – BRIGHTNESS/ CONTRAST, move the slider to where you think it fits. (This is not always needed, but can sometimes make a big difference.)

    If you then add an image you can always move the layer below the adjustment layers to see if you like the effect on the image used.

    Here is my layer palette at the end of adding adjustment layers.

    Remember that you may use as many adjustment layers as you like.

    This tutorial may seem stupid and useless in some people eyes, but I use these simple adjustment layers with every signature I make and it gives a very reliable outcome. I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and learned some new useful techniques for adding depth to your signature background.

    Nice tut bro.

    ...:::EDIT:::...
    Just when you do highlights...only use the yellow and put it down to like -60 to -80 and it will give it a nice glow look like on my sig.

    Good job flames, i wuda made, but im too lazy...lol....well, i already knew this, but instead of using curves, you can auto color (usually same effect) ctrl+ shift+ b.....yea....if you brush light, this will help alot, even if you jsut use brightness/contrast =)

    Id also reccomend either Auto Contrast/Levels to fix it up too. Or the Ctrl+L command. :)
