^that would be considered spam, my friend. Don't post unless you have a question, suggestion, or want to thank me.

Holy crap, that is a big list, and I've seen big free program lists before.

A image editing program I remember liking but didn't see on the list was PhotoPlus Pro (or something like that) from Serif. It used to be free, but if you go to their site, you have to buy it now. How ever, I did find Freeserifsoftware.com. Not sure of its legitimacy. It is probably not needed as the GIMP and other programs being out, but it is a good alternative to Paint if you want a little bit more, but not too much.

There is also Project Dogwaffle, which looks like a really good digital painting program. Here's a link to the free ware -

When it comes to download managers, I've heard of GetRight and FlashGet (works with Firefox extension FlashGot)
    GetRight: http://www.getright.com
    FlashGet: http://www.amazesoft.com

I'm quite surprised I didn't see mention of WindowsBlinds (but I did see CursorXP, both which were made by Stardock). I guess either people don't use themes here or just haven't heard of it (or maybe use other programs or possibly even hate WB).

Nonetheless, Stardock has many Desktop Enhancement programs (perhaps the leader in the industry?), WindowsBlinds (cool Windows themes) being the most popular. There is also LogonXP to change your Logoon screen, BootSkin to change your boot up images (due to WinXP limitations, it can have no more than 16 colors), and many other great programs.

    Stardock site: http://www.stardock.com
    Stardock resources: http://www.wincustomize.org

There is also Style XP, which supposedly runs within Windows instead of just over it like WindowsBlinds. I think I read it was pretty good, but you would be paying $20 for a simple windows hack.

Here is a discussion (With me) about Windows themes that includes StyleXp and replacing the Windows Shell alltogether:

EDIT: Ahhh, I didn't notice that some of this wasn't discussed already in another thread here. Well, I guess it doesn't hurt to add those other programs to the list while we are at it. Might as well.

EDIT2: I also forgot to mention WinWall. It's a free small program that changes your Wallpaper as often you want. You can make it change every time you logon, or every certain inteval of teim (seconds, minutes, hours), when you click its icon on the systray, randomly or sequentially from a list of wallpapers. You can also add captions and visual effects to them. It is great when you've collected a bunch of wallpapers from an official game site.

    Knew you would, buddy ;)

Getright and Flashget are not freeware, it is shareware, where it is free for 30 days, or has limited options.

All Stardock and StyleXP programs are shareware as well.

    I'll look into the others

edit: plus, winwall would fit better in the "Graphic User Interface Skinning Guide" thread...

So why is WinRar, dbPowerAmp, and Avast (Limited Demo edition, I see that I have a few days left for something), on the list?

Yeah, I understand the point of this thread, but I think it is worth noting some of these shareware programs (especially since WinRar is one). Maybe have a note or symbol next to the ones that are shareware.

WindowsBlinds is shareware, but you can still use it beyond the remaining time date (can't you? correct me if I'm wrong) just like WinRar. Of course, you can't use it to your full potential, but it has some great nifty themes and what not.

I suggested Winwall because it was free...but I guess it's your call on where it goes.

Oh yeah, And thank jeebus you have Wikipedia in your sig, More people need to see that site. Would reduce alot of questions (not to mention Google also). -rep if I could. :(
