AMERICAN HISTORY X 5 out of 5 Stars. Okay this is a rather old film, 8 years old to be exact, it was made in 98', but I just recently saw this movie, and I was amazed at its realism The main cast goes like this.(These are the most important people imo) Edward Norton-----Derek Vinyard-----(Main character, astonishing performance from Norton as usual) Edward Furlong-----Danny Vinyard-----(Supporting role, Norton's brother, goes through lots of emotional trauma) Avery Brooks-----Dr. Bob Sweeney-----(Black caring teacher, acts as a guardian angel of sorts to the Vinyard Bros.) Ethan Suplee-----Seth Ryan----- (Not too much of a role, but plays a big part in showing the ferocity in the hatred of gang) Stacy Keach-----Cameron Alexander-----(Mastermind of the Neo Nazi group knwon as the "Skinhead" that Norton was a part of Guy Torry-----Lamont-----(Jail buddy of Norton) Thats all for the main cast, (names are courtesy of imdb.com) Now for the brief synopsis and the movie and my opinion. Synopsis: Derek Vinyard (the head honco of the white supremacist gang known as the "Skin Heads") lands himself in prison after he murders two black people trying to rob his car. These two black guys were trying to get revenge after Vinyard and his fellow skinheads, beat the thieves in a game of basketball, gaining that court as their territory. While Derek is in prision, His little brother Danny starts going down the same path he did, listening to Cameron (Founder of the Skinheads) and his manipulative lies and ideals on the progression of the white race and mankind. At the same time Derek learns his old ways were wrong after he befriends "Lamont" a black person, he then goes on a mission to save his narrow minded brother from the wrong path, and a rapid growing Skin Head population. My Opinion: This no-holdsbar movie blew my mind. It exploded with realism, and actually made me feel if I were there. The street dialog, scripts, camera movement, and emotional changes that these super dynamic characters go through were right on. I applaud the director Tony Kaye, and Edward Norton for his flawless performance. 5 out of 5 Stars.
that film is classic i saw it back then too i was 10 and that curbstomping really caught my attention back then :/ anyway awesome movie, spoiler [aww i hated it when his brother gets shot for being an nazi asshole lol]
curbstomp is a very sick and cruel thing to do....thats why i dont like watching these movies....yes im a -----
I think the best part was when he has the african american bite the curb because thats an actual event that happened. Quick and painless.
if anyone has ever chipped a tooth, the nerve pain hurts like a bitch, well when u bite a curb, all of your teeth get chipped, plud your skulls break in 2 pieces separating from the jow, and the pain of someone kicking you in the back of the head, plus the pain of your face smacking into the ground. thats alot of pain
I watched this movie back in my psych class during college. I cant reccomend this movie enough, to everyone. I even made my parents watch it. The lesson that it teaches is one that we should all learn. The realism is defienetly there. This kind of stuff DOES happen, and it really opens your eyes to it.
the only lesson that can be learned from this movie, is dont blow smoke into an angry adolescent crip. lol
