 Thanks for the comments everyone. If I ever come across it, I think I'm going to steer clear of it. I drank grain alcohol once, and this Absinthe makes that look like mineral water.
I havent, but i wouldnt mind tryin an 'ickle' bit. I think my mum n dad have tried it though, and all they said is 'its very strong'
FOr all you americans who dont know, but Europe isnt 1 country! it is freaking alot of countries, not states like in the usa, but many independant countries so NO absinthe isnt legal in europe but in some countries in europe, not all but some. Every country has it own laws. In my homeland Sweden "real" absinthe isnt legal but a less strong absinthe only 40-50% strong absinthe, I belive that the real can be 80% and include some stuff that can make you hallucinate or something...
There are many varying qualities of absinthe, some of which will most definitly make you hallucinate, some which will not. The determining factor is the concentration of a chemical released during the fermentation of wormwood. While it is not legal in the US, it is fairly easy to bring some back with you. Just mislabel the bottles. Seems stupid, but my roommates brother came back with 25 bottles, and had no legal trouble whatsoever. A word to the wise, absinthe is not a drink to try for those who have not become accustomed alcohol. By accustomed I mean you muct have a strong tolerance, because in order to drink enough to hallucinate, you will be consuming a considerable amount of alcohol (this is even from good varieties). People will tell you they had two shots and were tripping, but they are either lying, had the drink spiked with something (people sometimes put small amounts of LSD into absinthe), or are experiencing the palcebo effect. It is not the type of hallucination where you will be seing all sorts of things that are not there, but you will undergo some small visual and auditory hallucination. ---- tastes terrible though, even with the sugar/water/flame mixing you can do.
