Quake 4 for the Xbox 360 which I recently purchased, it's a more contreversial game so review time.

    GRAPHICS
9/10. Stunning all the way through, there is very rarely a section of the game when they graphics are below par, from the shimmering pipes to the huge hulking monster's it all ties down perfectly into a very well executed horror style theme.Overall, great graphics.

    STORYLINE
6/10 - You are basically a legendary soldier, well known for getting into trouble and before you start the main mission you are told things like "A man like Kane could get us killed" You are of course Kane, then your ship crashes and the majority of the game is defending against the "Strogg (sp?)" and destroying their weaponry etc. It's quite dissapointing storyline but it's enough to keep you tied down and in the action.

    GAMEPLAY
8/10 - The darkest area's of the game can be quite hard to navigate through, but overall the control's are very easy to get the hang off and once you can you can switch weapon, turn on the flashlight and do all the necessary functions easily. The gameplay play's very well, it doesn't have an absolute pick up and play factor but it is nearly there, especially with the multiplayer mode.

    MONSTERS
6/10 - Well, the monster's in the game were very well designed, the only problem I really had with the monster's was the fact they dissapear once dead, so you never really get a proper proper look, well at least without getting your head ripped of. My favourite monster has to be the gladiator, the first time I went against one I was torn to shreds then the second time, a grenade launcher really does help. The monsters are just a tad repetitive though.

    GUNS
8/10 - While there is noting particularly new about the guns in the game, they certainly do the job. First of all the graphics on them are very nice, second of all they are very easy to control and you can always tell what gun is suitable for what enemy. My favourite gun is the railgun, although the Rocket Launcher is always going to be a classic. While the game suffers in originality with the guns they match the game very well, and overall fit in perfectly.

    AI (Artificial Intelligence)
6/10 - I'm afraid the game suffers here, the AI was actually quite poor. While some monsters did react by lifting up shields etc. Most of it was just pure shoot run dodge action. I didn't really get a feeling of AI from the monsters at all and these is an area the designers seriously need to work on. Clever monsters would surely push this game deeper into the dark areas and increase the tension. Check out games like Condemned for examples.

    VEHICLES
7/10 - There are not a very wide range of vehicles at hand, although the enemy seem to have a lot. The first vehicle you have any control other is a gun on the back of some form of hovercraft. It's simple to control and works quite well, then you get hold of a tank later on. This is also amazingly easy to control (Shoot and Drive) at the same time although, it looks quite clumsy while driving. the enemy vehicles are the ones that stand out though, from rolling robots (Like those of star wars) to gliding spaceships and huge mechanical monsters, they really add a good futuristic war feel,

    EXTRAS

9/10 -There are VERY few game's that can worry a person about what is around the next corner, there are very few game's that have you leaning forward on your site in a dark room with your door locked and every other orifice of sound or light blocked out just so you feel you fit into the deep dark atmosphere of the game. I played Quake 4 at midnight when I first got it, pitch black outside and computer and anything else of...and I jumped MULTIPLE times, you casually walk down a corridor, granted it's a dark one but your not expecting much, theres a hole to the right and a set of pipes on the left. Naturally as I walked past I kept my eye on the hole, slightly expecting something to pop out at me...until suddnly steam shot in front of me and i was thrown at the wall as a huge monster crashed through the wall and pipes. This kind of unexpected shock really adds a good new element to the game which very few provide. Another example is, I was talking to a security guard through a glass window, I could see him and our two charcters were discussing the mission when suddenly the door behind him opens...it's just a black shadow at first, thought nothing of it...I thought it would be another security guard until another monster comes bursting through and slams the security guard into the opposite side of the window im looking at with blood splattering all of it...the monster quickly roars, runs of screen then appears to the side giving you a split second to whip out your railgun, turn, back of and fire. This aspect of the game is what is making it great...graphics are almost perfect, the gameplays great....but the horror theme is just superb. I recommend it for any XBox 360 owner.

Its a great singleplayer game. But the multiplayer is horrible.

and I hear they are making a new MP only version of quake soon which might be good...

Okay, that is for Xbox360. But I bought it for PC, and I have to tell you... it is THE most HORRIBLE game I have EVER played. I have played some REALLY bad games.

But Quake4 was just HORRIBLE. It was Quake3.... with a TINY extra bump in graphics.... and the lag is HORRIBLE. Even on servers with low pings.
