I just fixed my computer finally and now I need to know how to install my new SATA hard drive.

I want the older hard drive as the Master and the new SATA hard drive as the Slave.

I already have the Older hard drive(IDE) working but dont know how to install the New hard drive(I know how to plug everything in but not sure how to get it working). Please guys help.

I'll jump on the wagon with ya. I'm not 100% sure how to do it, but i think you have to install drivers and such, then in control panel->administrative tools->computer management, you would have to partition your new drive.

other than that, I'm not sure. look it up on google or something, I gtg..

hehe i kno coz i did it before I got 2 SATA ;)

SATA HD are easier to install you dont need to set master/slave jumpers

First of all set IDE HD jumper to master - Instructions on HD to where to put the little plastic thingy ;) & dont forget to put the power cable in

Then PLug it into the IDE slot 1 on your motherboard

The SATA just goes into SATA socket 1 - No jumpers required just put the cable and power on it

    Close case

Then go into BIOS - Check that your master is your IDE Master drive and your SATA drive is there

Check HD boot priority & put IDE HD at Number 1 so basically it boots the IDE one first [boots windows if u got it on there]

Then once loaded Windows - GO into Admin Tools>Computer Management> Disk management & if your SATA drive is new then format it

Make it a Extended drive first then Logical drive if it lets you - Then format using NTFS

Then once 100% complete your new SATA Backup will be on My Computer automatically ;)

    I hope it helps ;)

so I was 50% right... ok, that seems simplier than installing an extra PCI eide controller...

Its a PCI card that has 2 extra EIDE (PATA) ports, and after you install the drivers, it gives you a third and fourth IDE channel.

make your sata master with your OS on it, because its faster.
