Ok, heres the situation ... I bought an ASUS x850 XT Platinum Edition AGP x8 for christmas. Now, on newegg.com, they have the 7800 GS anywhere from $50 - $30 less than my graphics card was (depending on the model). I was thinking of getting the superclocked version (which has a core clock of 460 and a memory clock of 1350) ... is it worth sending my graphics card back to newegg and buying the 7800 GS.

Hope you guys can help :D

I'd go with the 7800, especialy since it'll cost you either nothing or very little. I've heard the 7800GS OCs VERY well, and the SM3.0 support never hurts.

^That's because the AA in HL2 is set up to work better on ATi. If you set AA in the control panel before playing, everything looks alot nicer.

And nVidia is not better. The two companies have been neck and neck for a long time. ATi has the fastest card out there at the moment. (XT1900XTX).

I read the review on www.firingsquad.com ... and according to the review, the 7800 GS Superclocked to 460 and 1350 (pre overclocked retail) and it gets beat out by a stock (not overclocked) x850 XT PE at Half Life 2, F.E.A.R. , and Call of Duty 2. I play Half Life 2 and Call of Duty 2 alot and plan to buy F.E.A.R. so why go for a card that gets less performance on the games that I play? Also, it says that the 7800 GS only has 8 ROP's ... whatever those are and all of the other high end cards have 16 (such as my card) and the fill rate is less than half of what the x850 XT PE's is (8640 vs. 3000). So since it gets less FPS in the games that I play and it has a way lower fill rate ... I have decided to keep my graphics card. I really don't have the time to send my card back anyways ... and to loose performance on the games I play and gain only a little bit of perfromance on other games ... it just isn't worth sending mine back. Thanks for your oppinions :D ^_^

Then it's wrong... the 7800GS does have 16 pipelines.

It has 16 pipelines ... but only 8 of the other things ... just look at the website and those are the official specs ... it only has 8 ROP's whatever those are ... I have no clue.

You cannot send it back because you have overclocked. anyway the 850xt is better even though there is a lack of sm3.

If he sets it back to stock settings and there's no heat damage... how do they know? Unless it's recorded in the BIOS or something...

I'm not sendin it back ... like I said, the x850 XT PE outperforms the 7800 GS Superclock in Call of Duty 2, Half Life 2 and F.E.A.R. ... so why change when I own all of those games and play them (I'm in a clan for CoD 2 to add to things :D ) ... and OC'ed mine goes even faster. It just isn't worth the hassle ... plus ... im alread pissed off because ThermalTake (or any aftermarket heatsinks) don't fit in Dell computers (I tried and ThermalTake told me it wouldn't fit after I already recieved it) ... so I have that to take care of :P

Oh ya ... and I trust what Defuzion says about keeping my GFX card ... cause he is the all knowing

Oh ya ... and heres what an ROP is ... the 7800 GS has 16 Pixel Pipelines but only 8 ROP's ... The x850 XT Platinum Edition has 16 Pixel Pipelines 16 ROP's ... heres the definition of an ROP (didn't know what it was till I looked it up on Wikipedia)

It's not that old and it can still outperform the new 7800 GS ... so you can't talk. I know that the 7800 GTX is way better ... but were talkin about AGP cards here.

the only advanatage the 7800 has is ps3 and you wont need to worry about that.
