i was reading the mag 'gigahz' (computer modding mag) anywho i was reading the half life 2 steam. it said that valve loved it that they were the first people to do the 'steam' for a game on the pc. it went on about saying that it was also a bad thing because loads of hackers could get to the program and host it on web site. i ahve to admit that i do have a copied steam that my mate gave to me. i was shocked about how easy it was to get a copy of that, my mate is not good at computers. i can tell you that. when i played it i liked it apart from you cant use it onlin. that was the whole perpose of me getting the game. blowing the shit out of people on the net ! lol, i didnt like it. although the single payer worked like a dream it was not fun 'ripping' valve©, so i ditched the game. never found out if it was good or not. (ive never played half life) so im asking, what do you think ? good thing or bad thing ?
Steam was the worst thing that ever happened to Valve and the preSteam team. Reasons: > Games download system ineffective, often leaves paying users without games. > VERY poor AUTH system for CD-Keys etc, hacks have enabled features so that users can now use steam without CD-Keys etc... > Online games are buggy, Steam supported servers are often glitched [especially in CS] whereby users can experience intermittent lag because of engine flaws. > Online games are open to being hacked to pieces, aimbots are rife among games like CS and CS : Source > Instant messaging system, flawed, often down for maintenance. > Not enough developer support, they've tried to monopolise the mod community with Steam -- they failed, 3rd party applications ARE being developed at Steam's expense. And to finish, Steam's user support forums 'convieniently' go offline when they have a crisis on their hands e.g. many of the CS patches in the past. As you can probably tell, I'm not a big Steam fan
I have m8 ^^ Note for my above post: and yes, future Steam games are probably going to be worse, much worse, after Steam lost so many customers to the CD-Key crack released just HOURS after Halflife 2 was shelved!!
It was hell to install HL2 and Steam. While a good idea, Steam royally sucks. It took 3 hours to install a normal game, and then it had to download more crap from the internet. Waste of my time.
Yea for rippers it sucks but for legit users it works pretty good I never have had a problem with it and everything works great. I myself had a cracked cs source, and I still have a cracked 1.6 cd key but source is different it not that hard to crack it, but its basiclly like any other game cracking. Which if you do so your account will probably get banned and what not. But I bought hl2 just a few days ago for cs source which I already had a copy of that worked online but the when the update 8 came out there was no good patch which fucked up my game files and it wouldn't play and once Ii got source everything updated itself and everything is way better and you dont ahve to go through all of that crap so yea Steam is a good thing
Dan first it will take awhile to install hl2 its one of the way better and bigger games out there yea hl2 sucks but you get source and thats all I really wanted in the long run but it had to update which it updates itself, I dont kno if you guys have ever installed a patch without steam on a cracked game it takes alot of damn time granted you get it for free but I just dont have that time you have to copy everything little file into seperate folders and it just inst pretty, so yea its better to buy it and steam is better if you BUY it instead of downloading it somewhere.
Its a great idea, thats how I got it. It works perfectly fine, and I dont need to worry about CDs or anything.
steam works fine for me. i havnt had any problems with instaling hl2 or updating hl2 or steam its self, other than the friends not working all the time. i think they could have made better decisions. but weither you like it or not steam or programs such as steam i think will be here to stay. it is the most effective way to combat people stealing games. the only think i regret is not making a new account when i installed cz and hl2. i just wanted it to get installed and i forgotz to log off my cs acount so now if get banned or haxed or something its like $50 down the drain.
