I have Just 512mb RAM, and it was ok for awhile, over my previously 256mb system... I'm a moderate gamer, playing BF2, and other free mmorpg's. I also use CS2, Flash, and Dreamweaver. here's the CPU-Z data: now, I want the lowest price, from Newegg, preferably. should I: 1. Get another stick of 512 similar to the above OR 2. Get a new stick of 1Gb (dual channel, maybe?) and throw my other one into my dad's computer Basically, which will save me more? I have 3 DDR slots on my mobo. Any more Info you need, holler. edit: wait, that was 2 RAM slots, sorry :unsure:
Hmm..well you can get dual channel ram for like, 70 bucks lowest i think, a single 512 would be about half that. The dual channel ones would give you better performance, but it would also cost more... so is it worth the extra cash?..i dont know...for BF2 yea, but it would be fine for the programs and most free games too probly...and it may not be a big diff for bf2 anyway.. SO in conclusion..I'm about just as confused as you..

the cheapest OK single channel peice is about 45-45$ on newegg. the cheapest decent dual channel peice is about 85-100$, i'd go dual channel it isn' t much more(10$ a stick) and it offers you some options in the future. as for keeping your current ram, your call it's slow but AMD chips aren't very bandwidth sensitive, then again it is VERY slow so there might actually be a diference. conversely you could just get the 512mb and save 20$ and just never plan on using it in a future system. 512mb 37$ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16820231026 99$ 1gb 2*512 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16820231027 EDIT: why is G skill always coming out as cheapest bang/$ in terms of timings, I heard they are good, they low quality or just aiming for market share?
Thats $78 not 99... my corsair xms I think are the same as those g.skills, its just they are 99 bucks but also come with a heatsink..so idk, maybe the heatsink makes up for a bit of that..(although i doubt a heatsink is 20 bucks)

I dont know tough decision. the pc is getting a little old running ddr333 and a 478 so i dont know. IMO I would wait for a new system or if you plan to get a new system in the future get some ddr400 (pc3200) now which can later be used in a new pc.
Yeah, this is a Socket A.. I just bought the cheapest AMD computer I could find, to replace my old motherboard that died... I'm sure I could just get an extra 512, and save money for a new computer... I Just need the extra RAM for CS2, when it is working, I'm getting down to the double digits in RAM. Until I find a higher paying job, I don't think I can afford a whole new system...
