Ok, well, when I first got PSCS2 I had this problem, then it went away (for the most part). Now it's come back. I've had it since the end of may, '05. Towards the end of April I'd downloaded the CS trial, which had this same problem. The trial is no longer on this computer (I removed it when it expired). Anyway, here's the problem:

    PS slows down a bit

The cursor doesn't change until I go over a button (resize cursor stays until I roll over something else)

I can select different tools, but I can't click the image I'm working on (the cursor doesn't change and usually turns into the default windows cursor)

When I use the tool (and it works) it stops working afterwards

The only way to get it to work is to open some window (new layer window, layer styles, etc) and I generally have to click on a drop down box and then hit ok. This doesn't always work and generally only works until I do something

It does not effect the menus or anything else, just the canvas.

    It's ONLY a photoshop problem.

    Other stuff:
PS Version: Photoshop CS2 (problem also occurs with CS, but not with elements, other versions haven't been checked)
OS: Windows XP Home Edition (service pack 2)
    Computer: Dell Dimension 8200
    Video Card: ATI Radeon 9800
RAM: 512 (enough to run PS)

If anything else might help then just ask...

When this problem first came up I got on the adobe PSCS2 forum and asked for help. They said it was a problem with my graphics card or drivers. My drivers are fine (they specifically said they weren't updated) and I'm pretty sure PS is compatable with my video card. The fact that the issue dissappeared for quite some time makes me wonder what might have caused that. It gradually came back (and gradually went) and used to happen most often with larger images, now it happens shortly after I open PS

adobe is cheap and charges for phone tech support so I haven't called...

Help is appreciated. IF someone can tell me my problem and help me fix it (which for some reason I doubt) I might be able to find it in my heart to give some credits ;). If you've got any questions feel free to ask (just keep em relevent...). Never was good at explaining things...

meanwhile, I might try reinstalling it on the C drive instead of the E drive, maybe if it's on the other hard drive it'll work, who knows? But I think it's almost full >.<

I don't think it's ram (and currently I have negative dollars). It worked perfectly fine for a while (approx. 6 months), it's a gradual in-out thing, it comes and goes. And I know that I have enough ram to run it anyway, maybe not "that" much, but it's still enough to run it fine (just not to do major pieces).

The main problem isn't is running slower either, it's the mouse not working. It barely slows down at all when that problem comes up. I don't know, this is really frustrating...
