lol I saw this like 3 years ago before it came out in USA :)

I dont really ruin anything but...
THERE ARE NO SPOILER TAGS SO IF YOU REALLY DONT WANNA KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT SPIRTED AWAY DONT READ

Anyways, this is the basic plot:
As you said a girl and her parents get stuck in a spirit world and her parents dissapear...in the spirit world, from what I remember all normal humans such as the girl and her parents are turned into pigs. In order to survive as a human in that world, you have to work. Later she befriends a whole bunch of characters, meets baba er..dont remember her name, but that wizard lady and her twin, the dragon kid..and uh......now I dont remember how she started seeing ghosts....but I hope that helps you understand more....If I could see it again I would remember it better :S

I saw that a year or two ago and i can't remember any of it. I do remember that is one of the most confusing movies i had ever seen though.

Also, i think it is Spirited Away not Spirit Away, but i might be wrong :P

Brief summary - a young girl named Chihiro is moving with her family to a new town. On the way to their new home her dad decides to take a shortcut on a dirt road that ends with a tunnel (and here the Alice in Wonderland connection begins :)), and her parents decide to go through. Chihiro follows and they find themselves in a small but abandoned town. With nobody around, Chihiro's parents begin eating at a restaurant, planning on paying later. Chihiro wanders off and approaches a large building where she is told to run away before night by a mysterious young boy. She goes to find her parents who have turned into pigs, unable to stop eating. As she runs back toward the tunnel she came through she finds water blocking her path. The young boy from the bridge, Haku, finds her and helps her into the large building, which is a bath house for spirits and monsters. Chihiro learns she can only stay to help her parents if she finds work at the bathouse, otherwise as a human she won't survive, so she must work and find a way to reverse the effects on her parents.

That's about right. And I believe her parents turn into pigs because they just started eating somebody elses food without asking or knowing who it belonged to. And they ate quite ferociously too.

This is a great movie imo. Falls in line with Disney classics I think.

I actually prefer Princess Mononoke; out of all the Miyazaki films I've seen it stands out the most for me. They're all incredible, usually standing head and shoulders above most (most, not all) anime, but it even moreso .. I don't even know why. I've yet to see Nausicaa, but as much as I've heard about that I don't think it'll top it.
