I thought I was right on the very did I would hear somthing about Suicide. Not as much I don't hear it at all here any more. I think this is suck a good thing even though it was in 05. http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2005/02/02/...ain671167.shtml Suicide rates have dropped steadily since Prozac and similar antidepressants hit the market. The findings challenge recent claims that Prozac, Paxil, Zoloft, and the other drugs in the class known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) increase suicide risk. As a result of such fears, physicians in the United Kingdom can no longer prescribe the antidepressants to new patients under the age of 18. And in the U.S., the FDA recently ruled that SSRIs and other antidepressants must carry the strongest warning about suicide risk on their package information. The government actions and the negative press have led to a dramatic drop in SSRI use among children and adolescents. UCLA psychiatry professor Julio Licinio, MD, who conducted the review, argues that the under-treatment of depression poses a much greater threat than the drugs do. "It is true that in a small number of cases these drugs could make a person more prone to suicide," Licinio tells WebMD. "But by far the biggest cause of suicide is untreated depression. My concern is that when people don't get the treatment they need, the suicide rate is going to start going up again." Is this also were you live or just here and were I am.
So true, that last quoted statement. I work in a Pharmacy as it's Purchasing agent, so I know the deal about these anti-depressants. We (my pharmacy) spend roughly two million dollars per year just on Paroxetine (Paxil) and Sertraline (Zoloft) alone. They work absolute wonders, but as with everything, these treatments are not for everyone. A good doctor/psychiatrist combination should be able to spot any deviation in the patient's behavior, and recommend an alternate course of treatment. Thank God the FDA hasn't used the remote cases of suicide-related incidents to issue a recall of these drugs. That would hinder more than help.
Of course it's going to go down once meds are released that make your brain operate in the way people determine to be "normal". It's a shame that at the same time it can help people, it can send others over the breaking point. I probably know that side of those meds better than most of you here would.
I think that stuff helps alot of people but yeah in the same time it can be deadly, it really depends on the person.
proloft and zoloft have also been found to inhibit OCD. Also, people who claim to be in love before taking it seem to loose that really fast. heartbroke or just don't give a damn and want to get over some broad? take anidepressents. EDIT: just realized the real reason the suicide rate is down.
speaking of which, i've talked 3 people out of killing themselves in the past 3 weeks, 1 of which i had to talk out of twice
Eh...People using artificial crap to keep them alive...ahh i dont get life.. xP.. well i guess its a good thing...cuz depression sucks..and im like, anti-suicide and anti-depression ..idk..i have mixed feelings..
I think suicidal ppl are pathetic personally.. like if you're that much of a loser that you feel like you have nothing to live for and wanna do nothing but wallow in self-pity, then just do it.. The rest of us normal, PRODUCTIVE ppl will be better off without their negativity in the world
