I read a lot and several books are sad, one of the saddest was Harry Potter 6 and 5 sorry to say

 

to someone who is such a huge harry potter fan i do have to agree with you but its only sad if you have followed the books but yes i did find dumbledore dying quite sad if not totally unexpected.

Agreed . Lois is amazing, if only that book was a lot longer. But it's kick ass the way it is.

 

I like his dark materials trilogy its kind of sad at the end but in many ways its happy also its definetly in my top 5 of books i will definetly read again.

Agreed, although there was at least one major incident over the course of the books that was incredibly saddening as well as the ending .. There was always an underlying atmosphere of sadness and loss throughout the whole book, sometimes very strong, which just made those major incidents hit all the harder.

The trilogy is solidly imbedded in my all time favourites, I don't think it'll ever be dislodged. I re-read it last year and it was just as compelling and poignant as the first time. I can't recommend it enough, which is why I don't want to post any spoilers :wub:

 

easily, it's got to be Angela's Ashes...there was this one part of it when the father had to save the child by sucking the snot out of nose or something...
