Call of Duty 2: Big Red One is one of the best first person shooters out for any console and by far the best first person shooter for the PS2 (The console I played it on). It far exceeds anything EA games has put out in the Medal of honor series, even the much hailed European Assult. Big Red One is the first infantry division of the United States Army. The game follows the path of the "fighting first" in chronological order of their journey through WWII. You start out fighting in the deserts of Africa against the "desert fox", then you move on to the invasion of Italy and finally you make your way into Germany crossing the siegfried line at the dragon's teeth. The combat is just as intense as the PC version. You have many men fighting with you and against you, the game stays true to the motto "In war, no one fights alone." The game also continues the varied mission types featured in previous COD games. You have tank missions anti-aircraft gun missions, you even get to sit in a plane and be a tail-gunner, feautres that COD fans will much appreciate. Big Red One shows much improvement over it's predecessor, finest hour. First, the checkpoint problem is solved. Big Red One features many checkpoints and so you will not have to start way back in the mission, should you fail for some reason. Second, the game gradually gets harder, rather than ratching up difficulty greatly between the Soviet and British campaigns like finest hour. Fans of COD might be disappointed by Big Red One only having fighting from the United States perspective. Many hardcore COD fans have grown accustomed to the varied perspectives and weapons. Those who don't mind it and like the series for it's intensity will not be let down at all. Fans of WWII in general might be let down by the sub-par sound. The lack of great sound leads to a lack of weapon feel. Overall however, Big Red One has all the elements of a great WWII shooter for the console. Very intense gameplay, a large variety of weapons, fair AI lead to an enjoyable gaming experience. For those who don't have online capability, BRO might be only worth a rental due to it's low replay value. However, those with online capability will enjoy it's multiplayer and it will definitely be worth a buy/.
