I dont know about a good cooling system when you want to spend $500 on the whole computer.

500 bucks? Really good? Thats pushing it.

I say look into some pentium 4's, and some barebone machines (make sure the motherboard is compatible with the processor), try 1 gig of ram maybe, something like crucial. If you want it for gaming or playing movies and such, make sure you dont get "valueram".

Better than alienware would be about...1200 bucks...cheapest.

For you, make it 600 bucks at least. And from what was said above..
just change the dvd drive to this one:
    http://www.newegg.com/product/Product.asp?...N82E16827152058

and the case is my only other worry as it probly is kinda cheap..like 90% plastic kinda cheap. XP but idk about it..

Thats not possible if its 500 USD buddy..seriously..unless he gets a really ----ty alienware. dont believe him. My system was 900 and alienware pc's are still better,,(well only the gfx card is..)

only alienware he can do better with is probly this one:
    http://www.alienware.com/product_detail_pa...ode=SKU-DEFAULT

    cuz that one sucks..

They came out with FX-60s already? I thought they were still on 57s...

Ahh well. Just get the cheap dual-core Ath64s. If it's under budget. CoD2 supports dual core, and that's all the assurance I need. :D

If you want to get some cheaper, go somewhere else besides newegg like http://www.pricegrabber.com or http://www.pricewatch.com

PriceWatch requires specifics. Ebay has the best deals if there's some odd auction for some 512 RAM sticks.

Cheapest dual core would be half his budget^

the system above is decent, best you will be able to get.
