^ Thats exactly my point.. And the games were taken away from him after i found out he was playing them.. so calm down about the parent crap.. That is my point.. younger kids are getting a hold of these games and getting influenced by them.. man.. tell me which kid right now is playing a non teen or M rated game ? what games are there to play that are not M rated and fun ? You think hes going to want to play donald duck or mickey mouse games ? lmfao.. And.. who looks at the ratings ? One of my friends cousins who is 11 years old walks around saying the N word.. why ? cause he got it from san andreas and thinks its cool.. how ? he just bought it at a store.. as if the people who sell it there are going to ask where your mommy and daddy is.. All good games have some sort of killing or death in them.. EXAMPLE : DEVIL MAY CRY, COUNTER STRIKE, HALO, WARCRAFT... So i still say that games influence people big time
YOU are the one to blame for your own actions. YOU are the one that confuses video gaming with reality. YOU are the one that tryes to imitate what you see. In the end, you're the one who made this decision and even though video games do influence, so do other factors, but they never tell you to go outside and experiment it. I'm sick and tired of everyone blaming it on games. They sue Rockstar games because some people's child went out with a shotgun and shot people at random. How about trying to figure out how he got the shotgun in the first place and sueing the place he got it from because he came into its posession so easily ? No, it's much easier sueing game companyes... and probably more profitable as well.
I personally believe videogames does not influence the thought of teens, their actions is their own fault. They failed to tell the difference between reality and videogames, therefore, accidents/muders or whatever bad happens. Parents ought to pay attention to their children to guide them from thinking their in a videogame world, which their not.
This is one of the best lines I have read thus far. Video games are a break from reality, they are NOT reality. A person may do something that may be similar to a video game in real life but I think it's the media that accuses the video game as the inspiration. Everyone has thier own mind to make thier own decisions, the benifit of choice.
Old horror movies use to do that to scares them by showing scary images enough fast that an eye can't see it, but your mind do and react without contacting your brain from what is hapenning. From now, it is illegal to do that cause of hearts problems. As for my part, I do think video games influence kids but only those who are vulnerable caused to problems in their life (i.e. Parents not paying attention to their kids, problems at school, problems with a girl). Something that makes you're life go "wrong" which would make you vulnerable and have pulses of violences. No one that is actually really happy and have good times in his life would get influenced by violents things. Its all about on how you feel, your vulnerability and your intelligence. In alot of case, kids being influenced by video games have lower mental rates which causes them to think using the examples in video games (i.e. if you hate your teacher you'll think of a way to kill her using a way that you saw in a video game). That's what I think generally... Won't bother writing more.
Where are the parents when the child does something amazing, when they win an award at school or a sporting competition. Most parent are right there in the front row, cheering and saying things like "thats my kid" first to take responsibility for the childs great actions. Where are they when the childs action is bad?...no then the ones responsible are music, tv, and videogames. The post about the devil may cry kid renaming himself Dante and dressing like the character, this is a 16 yr old almost adult. I think it's a pretty big sign to the parents that this kid needed some therapy and be brought back to reality. Thats not to say the child is blameless, millions of gamers around the world have been gaming their entire lives and don't go off suddenly killing people, or recklessly endangering lives. It's sad but obviously true that some kids just don't have the common sense to grasp the difference between reality and fantasy and usually this can be seen in their daily lives in the way they handle themselves but nothing is done about it, until it is to late.
I'm not shure wheter I have games or anime to blame for it. But I don't care about violence anymore. They did a research some time ago, claiming that lot's of videogame violence makes people insensitive for real life violence. I guess it's true. I can watch movies of animal rights organisations about animals being tortured and I fail to feel pity for the animals, I can even smile. I can watch 'The Green Mile' electrocution scene whitout considering for only just a second how horrible that must be. I think I don't even care for the death of certain members of the family. Terrible deseases are subjects for jokes for me. And I'm quite sure that can't be very healthy for the mind. And I'm sure it was once different.
woah. some great thoughts here! i agree with the majority of you who say that the parents have a fault here. i believe that. also dealing with the action and decision... is there a point where action becomes decision? just had to post here again, i shall follow this topic! ~nightfire
right. parents and these old white ppl that run the country blame everyone and everything but themselves. what happened to the kids just being crazy?
I feel proud of Mayor David Miller of Toronto. When asked if the game found in the kid's car should be used as evidence, he replied with something like "I do no believe it should. Tonnes of children and adults play these video games, and you don't see them all street racing, or shooting other human beings." I also would like to add, you never by a game if you never had interest in it in the first place. I mean, I'm a WWII know-it-all, hense why I love to play Call of Duty. Maybe the guys that were street racings, street raced. And saw that you could with out the risk of life. I mean common. The child had to have had the thought of killing someone, or street racing, regardless of the game. If anything, the game slowed down the process. Little out there, but its true. You don't pick up a book/show/game if you have no interest in it... Merged Post: For example. I play Amped 2 cause i can't go out and snowboard. Yes, i'd still love to go snowboard, cause it is more thrilling, but still, its a filler. lol. If i go to my closest resort and do a 360 Rodeo Indy Grab, and maybe break my neck. And say i had amped 2 in my pocket. Is someone going to go blame Microsoft cause they made the game?
the old white dudes that run America have forgotten what a parents' job is, as have parents. it is the parent's job, duty, responsibility to police their children's activities. parents nowadays are too dependent on someone else to take care of their children, hence censorship... and welfare. when I was growing up, my mom didn't let me run off and watch whatever I wanted or play whatever video games I wanted. she did her job as a parent and observed what material I was exposed to. anything that was violent and had a negative message, I couldn't watch. she gradually let the leash out more until to the age where she thought I was old enough. why? because she knew she had raised me correctly and instilled certain morals into my mind and she trusted me. as I grew up I was teased, just like most children are, but I never shot or blew up any school or had the urge to. today, there are too many kids and not enough parents.
I don't like video games influencing people , its just terrible. I'd be real dammned. Take the DMC case for an example ... Also GTA is extremely influencing , thats why I hate that game.
i think games do have some ifluence but why is it when a 9 or 10 year old plays something like gta:sa and he does something crazy why does the game get blamed and not the parents, the game is 18's ffs and an 18 year old should know not to do something idiotic like go around shooting cars with uzis because he saw it in a game. Also why do so many underage people have certain games, because i know that here the shops do their best to not give games to underage kids but what can they do if the kids parents buy the game for them and it isnt just games that can have an influence i mean look at some of the crap on tv. personally i think if a kid gets stupid ideas about a game and that he should do things that the games main character is doing they should be shocked out of the bad ideas, for example i used to think it would be cool to join the army and go off shooting people but after i watched the first scene in saving private ryan and you see the guy on the beach with his guts hanging out i thought " :censored: hell i never want to go through that" so now i just play games and i find they dont influence me at all. (sorry if i went a bit all over the place here, im not good at making big replies like this  )
