did you do a spyware or virus check? thats all i can think of. you cannot just uninstall it, are you downloading the most current version? I think it is 9c or something...

Yes, Direct X 9.0c from Microsoft.com ... the one I'm missing seems to be an older one though. I'm not sure.

shouldn't the newer overwrite the old one? if it isn't hurting anything, it should be fine...

When I tried installing an older game ... it said that there was a windows 16 Bit submask error and that the computer wasnt able to instal it at this time ... does that have anything to do with this?

no, its just with windows xp, it cannot run 16-bit programs well, all you need to do is right click the file, go to properties, and go to compatibility tab, and choose it to run as windows 98, see if that helps.

Overwrite the old one with a new one or something

I don't think you can actually remove Direct X cuz it usually removes itself with the program that came with it

    By itself, no idea

    Reformat always works :)

DirectX cannot be removed period. don't worry about it. your error has nothing to do with DirectX. It's XP's problem, it can not play 16-bit or below games, unless you do what i said above, and even that doesnt work sometimes.

try to find an updated version of the game, if possible.

hmm...system.dll is a file part of XP...how in the world did that get deleted or removed? Try a spyware/virus scan and see wat you get..if that doesnt work..check out Microsoft Help.. ^_^

If you have an XP disk, do a repair install. that will fix up the windows files..
