IIRC it costs money to get them, but once you pay for it you can dl it off steam, it's completely legal due to that, and if you already have a game you can register it on there...i think it's the only legal way to play it online, but i may be wrong

millions of people use it, yes it works great, awesome games, but you have to PAY for it. Each game costs around 40 dollars. Then it is added to your online account, and then you can download it and play. It is much easier than going to the store, plus if you lose the game, it is never erased from your account so you can re-download it.

steam is free to answer your question.

you have to play to get the games though, you go toa store like fry's electronics or buy the game somewhere, then you get a serial and enter it into steam and then you can either DL the game or get it off of disc.

yep... steam controlls all the online perspectives of the game, or atleast it is supposed to. Valve the company which made counterstrike integrated most of their games into steam because this way they can't be ripped off with people sharing games and stuff and you get to save the game to your hardrive so you get faster load times than from your CD.

the following games are integrated with steam:

    Counterstrike 1.6
    Day of Defeat
    Half Life
    Counterstrike condition zero
    Counterstrike source
    Day of Defeat source
    Half Life 2

there are more, but those are the main ones. you can buy the games seperately or in group packages. Also, do not cheat, because they can ban you from online multiplayer stuff and you will be forced to make a new account unless you want to play on servers without VAC(a lot of people cheat on those servers though)
