hehe i knew there were going to be some suggestions about other cards. tigerdirect is always a good place ~nightfire
That guy that suggested the 6800 was kinda... off. If he wants someone to find a low end card for cheaper than he did, why would he suddenly spend the $250 on a high end one? xD
I had one and it gave me nothing but crap though... couldn't save system date and the BIOS was constantly resetting itself. I even tried another batery, but no good.
we're not stupid, we know what you are talking about. we are suggesting a nw motherboard because PCI cards are crap. you can pick up a motherboard with an AGP 8x slot for like 30-40$ it gives you a lot more options.
ASUS Type: N6600LE/TD Interface AGP 8x For 80 Euro It's a pritty good videocard you can play on Middle with the newest games
tthe thing is i will also need a new processer since mine wont work on new 1s wit agp and pci-e borads
DO NOT GET ANY OF THE CARDS FROM THE FX RANGE MOST OF THE GEFORCE 4000 SERIES ARE BETTER THAN THEM. I HAD A FX 5500 BEFORE I UPGRADED TO THE 6600 GT! WHEN I WAS GONNE BUY IT SOMEONE TOLD ME TO AVOID THE FX RANGE LIKE THE PLAGUE BUT I DINT BELEIVE THEM, NOW I DO THEY ARE TERRIBLE! DO NOT GET ANY OF THE CARDS FROM THE FX RANGE. PLEASE BELEIVE ME.
How do you know what Motherboards will be compatible? Cuz I'd like to upgrade mine to accept PCI-Express, then I'll be set
If your going for an AGP card ... go with ATI ... much better cards at lower prices. That 6800 GS that one guy was talkin about is nice because its the only GS with 16 pipelines unlocked ... they normally only have 12. You have to upgrade your motherboard though ... a Geforce 5500 will barely play new games on low settings ... such as F.E.A.R. and CoD 2. I had a Geforce 5200, overclocked over the 5500 speeds before and it was crap.
ok on that picture, there are only PCI slots, so that guy can only get a PCI Card. for those that dont know - PCI slots are white slots, AGP are brown/red slots, and PCI-E are larger white slots. Back to topic - You have two options - A: Invest in a new motherboard that supports the newer AGP slot, or invest a bit more for a PCI-E motherboad, and then buy a graphics card that fits your board. This is better for the long run. A new motherboard and half decent agp/pci-e card would set you back abt $100 maybe. B: Buy a PCI Graphics Card. PCI cards are really slow and old, so I wouldnt recomend this option. Now if you choose A, i think u mentioned ur processor is a 478 pin package, so look for motherboards that support 478 and a AGP slot (since as mentioned before 478 slots dont really come with the newer PCI-E) Hope that clears it up.
