My 17" LCD monitor supports up to 75 Hz for a refresh rate ... it was default 60 Hz and I decided to change it to 75 Hz to see what it did. What does it do and does it really make a difference what it is? Will it matter for gaming?

    Thanks

Just means the computer us going to redraw the screen 75 times per second. Setting it up that much higher isnt going to help much. Mine can go up to 120hz. But I leave it @ 75.

On a CRT it helps but on a LCD its useless. So I would leave it at default if you have an LCD.

After trying it on 60 Hz, 70 Hz, and 75 Hz ... it seemed the best on 70 Hz ... so I just left it there.

it does make a difference on all monitors. Put it as high as it goes you will notice less strain on the eyes after use.

Q3 Are refresh rates applicable to LCD monitors?

Unlike CRT display technology in which the speed the electron beam is swept from the top to the bottom of the screen determines flicker, an active matrix display uses an active element (TFT) to control each individual pixel and thus refresh rates are not really applicable to LCD technology.
