it depends on certain factors like

    -what u need
    -whats popular
-what the market is like, and how cheap crap is
    -whats weak, whats good

well in my system i need a new hdd, since ive only got 2gigs left.

well, clock speed doesn't tell the whole story, the athlon x2 4800+ rapes the 3.4GHZ pentium extreme edition, and intels next processors will be lower clocked.

I'd say what affects performance the most in modern computers would be HDD speed, it's a real bottle neck. Hence the reason I shall be getting two 10000rpm HDDs withi the next few months and a raid0 adapter.

What I want most within the next couple years to boost my PC...

    New CPU/mobo (Probably a mid-range Athlon X2)
Faster HDDs (2x 74GB Raptors would be nice)
more ram... a 1GB stick would be awesome.
And I should be getting a new case within a month or two...

    My Current Specs:
    2.5GHz Celeron D
    40 GB ATA HD
    300 GB ATA HD
    768 MB DDR PC3200 Ram
    450W ePower Puma II PS
    eVGA GeForce 6600GT, AGP 8x
SoundBlaster Live! 7.1 Channel Sound Card

what do you mean the computer specs thingy? u mean benchmarks???? if so, it depends on what benchmark program you are using. some test both cpu and gpu speeds, and some just test your gpu speeds.

I would say MB, CPU, and HD, Monitor, and Sound Card.
