Ok my parents computer has this issue where windows is stuck restarting over and over, it starts up and goes to the screen asking to choose either professional or home edition (tried both), and after choosing one it starts to go start up and the restarts again and I am brought back to the same screen, I tried starting in safe mode and tried going to the previous restore point, I don't want to reformat and I'm out of ideas, can anyone please help?

could be your powersupply. if it's bad it could explain it. either that or the boot able section of your HDD is messed up. try borrowing someone else 's PSU and see if it fixes anything if not, just reformat.

ahh, if you are able to get though to safe mode then it is unlikely a PSU issue. do you have a bad driver? it is likely something on the hardware side, I remember when I used a few things on a comp with SP2 on it it was set into a restarting loop.

if your going to reformat and it doesn't work, then its diffently a power supply prob. could very well be a problem with your RAM card. Ive had that experience and found out it was the RAM card. dunno how it works.

just a question, where exactly does it restart? when the first windows screen comes up (the windows logo and the scrolling bar) or when your desktop just starts to show or before it?

yeah but the really bad thing about linux is that most of the stuff people use every day such as Word, and heaps of game dont run on a linux OS. suggest you stick with the windows for now. plus you gotta get used to it. completely different setup. excluding the task bar :P

Yep. I was actually thinking of moving to Linux, then I found the programs are harder to install, I don't have my games, so I'll stick with XP...

Hmm..Ok..well A: Reformat your HD..that should help...also will lose all your data..

other than that, pop in the XP disc and repair the system files, I dont think that will mess with your data at all and it should help ya out.
