Im going to upgrade my ram from 512mb to 1gig, and my video card from a radeon 9200 to a geforce 6600gt. I currently have an AMD athlon xp 3000+ 2.2GHz processor, but what i was wondering is will my processor be able to handle the new video card and ram while playing games? and will i have any fan, cooling, or noise problems with my new hardware? Also, Do you think this upgrade is worth doing? i can currently play games like Hl2 on average specs, but i wish to play them on the highest they go. thanks in advance.
the ram is worth it, but not the GPU. you have to go to the 6800 to get much higher specs. I suggest the 6800 or the x800, but bother are a bit pricier.I'd just wait 6 month for the GFX card
Anything is better than the 9200, I'm not sure if you're mobo will support the graphics card as from what i remember the 9200 may be PCI. If it is AGP though the graphics card will be a huge improvement. The ram will also be worth it. As for noise and heat it shouldnt be much of an issue
I have a 9250 it isn't that bad, it plays HL2 on medium and well, why bother upgrading unless you can get something which will give you a huge diference? the 9200 is AGP 8/4x for those wondering.
LMAO ... medium hahaha i have a Geforce 6200 OC with 256 mb and its AGP and it plays half life 2 - game of the year ed. on High and i only payed 80 bucks for it at best buy what i like to say - radeon = ---- nividia = power
your card cost 80, mine cost 30 like I say nvdidia= pricier outdated radeon= something for cheapskates who are getting the card padid for by stingy parents
And I have to say You = ignorant Can't stand fanboys. I have the X1800XT and it is the fastest card you can buy. The 512MB 7800GTX is just as good as [maybe better than] the X1800XT, but good luck actually finding one. And nVidia is stopping production of them in February.
Make sure you upgrade your power supply for the GPU, as most 6600 GTs require at least a 350W PS. And xelink, there will be a huge difference between a 9200 and a 6600GT. HL2 on medium and HL2 on High are whole different worlds.
how many slots for ram do u have, if you have 2 keep the 512 and get a 1GB. I did that when i bought more ram 1Gb + 256
If nothing works out. Try out a 9800pro (possibly the version with 256mb of memory, which I have never seen, only heard of) My Specs: Venice 2800+ 1.8 Ghz Proc (64 bit) Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb ASUS A8V Deluxe Integrated FSB I run CoD2 , CS:S fine. That's just mostly because of the 9800.
the 9250/9200 cannot play hl2. it gets like 600 on 3DMark03!!! The 6600GT will see a massive increase. Going from 600 on 3DMark03 to 2500 on 3DMark05. However get the agp version of the 6800, it performs less that th 6600gt but it will perform better if you open up some extra pipelines as you have the chance to make a cheap card run the price of $250 one. If you get the 6800 which is the same price as the 6600gt then I will give you a link to a guide on how to open up the pipelines.
