I just got a 1997 Nissan Altima, but the stereo in the dashboard is a right bag of wank.

I need a new one, but I am a know-nothing when it comes to this stuff.

Guitar amps, no problem.......Car audio......haven't got a fecking clue.

I'm hoping some of the lads (and ladies) here are more knowledable than I am, so please if you can help me get the best bang for my dollar, I would be most appreciative.

Keep in mind, I don't need a DVD player with LCD screen or any of that shizzle. Just looking for a CD/AM/FM that plays MP3 CD's.

Thank you in advance, if anyone can help me.

Oh, and price range is no object.

    Go with kenwood, or pioneer.

Pioneer and Sony have some nice headunits, you can look around in those areas. Also, modern headunits all have a built-in ampilfier, so you wouldn't need an extra Ampilfier unit in the trunk if you aren't planning on to build a power ICE system.

I think I'm gonna get one of these. They have everything I need, and I'm not going to wind up signing away my first born for a decent sound system in my car.

Stick with pioneer, wouldn't be a wrong choice anyway, a very reliable brand with good quality, so is kenwood. Sony is good too, just that its usually more expensive than pioneer and kenwood somehow.

I have not a clue about this. But when I went to my local car audio shop I was able to get some good advice. The large chain stores just want to sell you something, so I say go to a local shop where you can talk with the guys for a bit before going any further with car audio.
