Recently it has to come attention that some people are having issues with their accounts being cracked into, and credits disappearing.

Though Invision Power Board has built in protection, and Llamaman has added extra add-on's - you will never be fully safe without taking some extra measures yourself.

This includes, but not limited to:
    • Unique password used for GameRenders only
    • Avoiding easy to guess passwords that involve keyboard combinations, using the same letter or number more than once in your password
    • Not giving your password out anywhere, keeping it on your computer, and logging out when leaving if on a public computer
We recommend you make a more unique and harder-to-guess password, with a combination of numbers, letters, and symbols. Keep your email updated under My Controls, and please do not EVER respond to emails claiming to be from GameRenders. If your unsure, please contact a Global Moderator or Adminstrator of the site. Those will be the guys(and gal) in blue & green on the bottom in Users Online. Their is always at least one Global Moderator online.

    From the big boss himself:

Following on from what BFTP told you, let me make it clear again that it is not possible to "hack" an account at GameRenders. If there was such a way to do this, then don't you think that this exploit would have been patched by now? There are thousands of Invision Power Boards out there, and if there was actually an exploit to find out people's passwords then its obvious that something would be done about it.

However, there are a couple of other methods in which your password can be guessed. These are described below:

    - Your password is guessed. The most common way that this is done is by using the same password on multiple websites - the "password guesser" (not hacker) may have found out your password via another forum or login form and since you use the same password for GameRenders, they can login to your account. Another way that this can be done is by guessing the "secret question" to your email accounts, which can result in someone being able to initiate a password recovery via GameRenders and resetting your password.

    - Brute forcing. Brute forcing is simply the technique of using automated programs to constantly try to use as many passwords as possible, in the hope that your one is found. This can often work if you have a weak password - the brute forcer won't take long to find yours. This method is unlikely, but it apparently has been done before at GameRenders. As a result, I have just now made logging in more secure, all failed login attempts are now recorded and if you make over 2 errors when typing in a password then you will be forced to type in a security number on an image. Further attempts at brute forcing will result in the IP of the brute forcer being banned.

So the main advice I can give you in order to protect your accounts is to make your password as long and as complex as possible, prefeably different to what you use on different websites. If you do this, then it will make it almost impossible for a "hacker" to gain access to your account and to steal your credits.

If you have any questions of this subject or would like more advice regarding passwords or making your account secure, then feel free to PM or email me.

    Happy Holidays,
    BFTP

I've added on a post from L himself, just be safe is the only thing we can ask of our members. This will include not using a universal password.

A do something along the following lines: I keep a set of different passwords, for various 'levels of security' of websites i visit. I deem most forums unsecure, so often use a different passwords. For GameRenders, paypal, and ebay - i use passwords that are at least ten letters long. It might be hard to remember at first, but it will become useful if anything happens.

Best thing is to just use your brain and if you ever need to give someone access to your account, CHANGE your password.

    Or, to solve everything you can use ò û ö ù Ü Ö ◘ ÿ ¥ £ ¢ ♣ ╪ ╢ Å ♥

    Isnt this tough logic?

No brute force / pass forcer can find those.

Yeah, I agree, some of this is common sence, though it seems some people on GR definetly lack that.

All good suggestions, nice postage BFTP + Llamma :D
