Hey, looking around, intel dual cores start out a lot cheaper (Intel Pentium 4 820 Dual Core 2.8GHz £182) compared to the starting of amd's dual core (AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 3800+ £235) so why are intels so much cheaper?

is it worth saving up the extra and getting an amd dual core for my new pc?over an intel dual core?

    Amd > Intel

I heard something about the Intel dual cores not really being dual cores or something like that too..but could be just a rumor or something...

Also, in Q2-3 of 06 there's a new processor coming out, I think by intel. Someone can fill you in more about that. But that might make prices go down, not sure. In case you dont wanna wait, like me, go for the X2 3800, like i did :D

    AMD > Intel
From what I know AMD duelcore chips are two chips squeezed into one, I'm not really sure what Intel is up to because they dont say anything about it on there site :S
The reason why the lower clocked AMD chips perform just as well as there higher clocked Intel chips is all in the achitechture, you see CPU have to guess what code to execute before hand now if it makes a mistake it must flush it's command pipeline, now intel chips use a larger pipeline therefore they have to have a high clock to make up for the time loss if a command has to be restarted, now AMD chips have a shorter pipeline therefore they dont execute as much code but is faster at cleaning up and restarting if there is an error with its prediction. So it's really one big balancing act to have long pipeline means you can execute more code but if there is an error its takes long to flush and restart, but with a shorter pipeline you can execute less code but clean up after yourself faster and start a-new.
I personally go for the little guy (AMD) :D so you should buy AMD the top notch X2 costs about 1500$ AUS

We've had polls around here before, AMD vs. Intel, it was like 30-1 AMD winning last I checked..really..so I'd say go with AMD its obviously best. Especially for gaming :P

Intel just crammed two Prescott Cores onto on die and called it a day. AMD took two cores put them on a day but instead of forcing them to use the FSB they made a little switch inside the die to allow them to communicate through that.
