I use an alienware m7700 laptop. 3.4 GHz, 2 GB RAM, 17" widescreen, nVidia 6800 Ultra. But worst computer ever... I still have a Tandy 2000. <_<
you cannot unlock pipelines on a pci-e 6800, only on the agp versions. As for your parents pc, chuck 95 on it.

dont upgrade to 64bit windows, you will lose software and hardware support and there is not advantage, there is a disadvantage in switching.
