You should get better performance out of the 3800 X2..I will be getting it as well..should be good :D

    a comparison here:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductCompa...SubCategory=343

I'd still go with X2 over the normal 4000 if it was me...plus you can easily OC it to a 4000 X2 or maybe higher...of course same for the normal 4000 if you know how to OC..

Btw, there is two different 4000 types...one's core is a Clawhammer, the other a San Diego. The only difference is process type but I dont know much about that.

the 4000+ is best for gaming...ppl seem to think that just cuz a dual core processor...has two cores is gonna be better for gaming...not true...games are single threaded...a dual core processor would only help if u where say...running a game...AND...other programs outside of it...like...say...u run CS:S...and have WMP running in background...then you would notice a difference from a single core processor...OR...if ur doing multimedia stuff...like...ur using photoshop...and dreamweaver...to make a site...all those it would be better then the single core...but for a GAMING...computer...a signle core processor is still better then a dual...plus...its much cheaper

    Its not cheaper^
actually the 400 San diego is 10 bucks mroe than the x2, the Clawhammer version is anout 40 bucks..

and in the future games will take advantage of dual core I beleive..

I was told that the San Diego 4000+ could be overclocked to a FX55, the second best single core processor

no games i know of yet are going to use dual proccessors yet so its not really worth it if its a gaming machine you could get a better single core processor for more money instead of spending it on a dual and duals are slightly slower gaming because theyre cache is designed differnt.

It can be oced to fx55 stock speed but you never get its oc abilities.

The x2 performs no different in games as the cache is the same, its just double like x2 512kb, etc.

    here is a comparison:
    x2 3800+ = two 3200's
    x2 4200+ = two 3500's
    x2 4400+ = two 3700's
    x2 4600+ = two 3800's
    x2 4800+ = two 4000's

Get the dual core as games are already starting to utilise it such as quake 4, age of empires 3, etc. They dont utilise it very well yet, only 10-15% but you will see great improvement throughout the next few months. Get the dual core, it is more "future proof" if you can call it that. It will have a much longer life than the single core. The dual cores have good ocing potential where they can go to between 2.5ghz and 2.7ghz on air and up to 3.0-3.1 on water or subzero stuff.

Definetly AOE3 on high settings..And I think CSS also..as long as you have a really nice gfx card then the rest might be okay, but I'm not sure exactly..Dont know much about PC gaming yet as I am new to it.
