yea i had this same problem your gonna need a new video card. what kinda of processor do you have? if you have intel i would recommend the ati raedeon 9800pro or if you have AMd cpu then go with the nvidia gforce 6600gt. they are both very good cards but i am not sure of the prices in £.

you can try to find them at

    www.newegg.com
    www.tigerdirect.com

It doesnt matter what your cpu brand is.

Get a 6800GT if you have an agp slot.
    Get a 6800GS if you have a pci-e slot.

edit* crap you have a compaq. you probably just have pci.

i would advise an atix800, they are around £100 and are all you realy need, they are the best value cards on the market imo.

Your card however realy should be good enough

Check if you have PCI, PCI-E or AGP. Since your computer is pre-installed with probably cheap hardware from a manafacture then you'll be lucky to have PCI-E. But you got a 3400+ so I'm assuming you have an AGP. Check though.

If you don't know what you got then I think the programme called CPU-Z will tell you. Download it and run the programme. I don't know where it's hosted off by heart unfortunately so Google it.

    EDIT:

No the 7800GTX is the best on the market at the moment. Besides you forgot the x850xt.

it all depends on what game you are trying to play.

if you search on feks google ect. you may find a graphic card "tester"
