I've had this laptop for the past 2 years. Everything was fine - normal like it always was... and when I was typing up a paper on MS word, the screen turned black for a split second - Then a blue screen popped up with a whole screen of text for one second, it went black, back to the blue screen for a second, then it all shut off. Because it flashed so fast, I couldn't even read what the text said. I tried turning it back on after fully charging it. It doesn't sound like it's loading anything and the screen doesn't turn on - BUT, the fan and the lights turn on. Does this mean I need a new harddrive on my laptop? If not, what could be the problem? And how much do you think a repair would cost? === The laptop is a Compaq Presario 2100 with Windows XP Home Edition. I had both IE and Firefox browsers and I used wireless internet at home & at school.
could be anything within your laptop that blew a fuse. I think it would be a lot cheaper to buy a whole new laptop, and try to savor your personal files...
Unfortunately, I was thinking the same thing I wish I had enough money to get a new one, but silly me has been spending money or random things... and the current bills I already have. I'll try and get a new one in a few months! It's a good thing I backed up all my personal files on my PC and the school's HD! Thanks XMasterX
Hmm, when you turn on you computer after the bluescreen shuts it down does it come up with a black screen that says strike f1 to continue.. I have a laptop and it gets a bluescreen like that too ..
