I've had this laptop for the past 2 years.

Everything was fine - normal like it always was... and when I was typing up a paper on MS word, the screen turned black for a split second - Then a blue screen popped up with a whole screen of text for one second, it went black, back to the blue screen for a second, then it all shut off. Because it flashed so fast, I couldn't even read what the text said.

I tried turning it back on after fully charging it. It doesn't sound like it's loading anything and the screen doesn't turn on - BUT, the fan and the lights turn on.

Does this mean I need a new harddrive on my laptop? If not, what could be the problem? And how much do you think a repair would cost?

The laptop is a Compaq Presario 2100 with Windows XP Home Edition. I had both IE and Firefox browsers and I used wireless internet at home & at school.

could be anything within your laptop that blew a fuse. I think it would be a lot cheaper to buy a whole new laptop, and try to savor your personal files...

Unfortunately, I was thinking the same thing :( I wish I had enough money to get a new one, but silly me has been spending money or random things... and the current bills I already have.

I'll try and get a new one in a few months! It's a good thing I backed up all my personal files on my PC and the school's HD! :D

    Thanks XMasterX

    It can be fixed, hopefully.

Hmm, when you turn on you computer after the bluescreen shuts it down does it come up with a black screen that says strike f1 to continue..

I have a laptop and it gets a bluescreen like that too :P ..
