What is the name of the .exe file? That would help much to know that, if you haven't deleted it yet.

Even files left in your cache would give you this error. For instance, you open a picture in photoshop, and try to delete it. Won't work. Many of the .exe (executable files) are either installation programs, which can also be .cab, or .msi... or programs like photoshop.exe, mspaint.exe.

So, it's possible you may need the file, and just not know it because you access it through a shortcut or another program. ;)

    Hope that helped. :D

actually, rebooting and then trying to delete might not work. The problem is if the file that needs to be deleted is being run right at the startup... if that is the case, game over.

    Best thing to do is:

hit <CTRL> + <ALT> + <DELETE> and see if the process is running

shutdown the task and then try to delete it, it might not work that way. But if you are able to shut it down, but unable to delete it. rename the file to .exe.bak or something like that. That way it can't be booted again with the next reboot and then try to delete it.

    Hope this helps a bit.

ok if rebooting doesnt work then go

    startup
    run
    type in : msconfig
click startup and untick all the crap that u dont recognize

    save and reboot again

and if comes to the worst backup all your files and reinstall windows.

and if that doesnt work then you should tell Bill Gates to fix XP or you want your money back.

Ive had that problem Google a program called "KillBox" put it on your desktop and start in Safe Mode, once you are in safe mode and KillBox is opened select the file manually through KillBox and press Kill File, should fix your problem it got rif of the OBE, OBEE,OBEMail,OBEServ trojan files that wouldnt delete with any programs perfectly, this should work if not ill find you something else.
