I couldn't disagree more. The point of making a website in photoshop and then slicing it is to create a smoother, better looking website then mere HTML and CSS can offer. Some people overdo it, such as I have mistakenly done in the past, effectivley taking it away from the content but it is very important to create a good balance between graphics and content.
I leanred html all on my own, after years of playing arounf i finaly got hte hang of it, helpful tips, cool websites u see view teh source and just read the tags they use and such, helped me!
I like using really clean and minimalist approaches. Keeps it simple for the viewer and in my opinion, looks better. I would just say to look at different templates at sites like boxedart.com, templatemonster.com, and there are a bunch of other good ones too. Also, try new styles and using lots of color but making it blend nicely. Yeah..

[/b][/quote] The sites are about the content, though. One good reason why my personal site doesn't use any graphics for the layout. I personally think it looks pretty good, too. It has a clean source, it's easily editable, and it forces a reader to be interested in the content rather than the design itself. Though, I could agree that some graphics do help draw users in, but I don't know if I want to draw in users with graphics when my content is politics. It just all depends on what the site is about.
an awesome site for learning all of them, (html, ps, php, etc.) is pixel2life.com. they have tutorials in a ton of stuff, both basic and advanced
Well if i could start again i would of stuck to the coding side of websites more than the graphical. Alot of people these days want php coders for customs cms, communitys scripts etc so theres alot of money for it. I think you should learn XHTML and css first so you can create useable, compliant websites then i think you should start learning php. Anyone can do graphics but not many can code well.
LEARN PHP HTML go to clantemplates.com talk to people there they will help u thorw it all just like GR helps u with GFX
here is the order to start your quest towards web design: Learn basic HTML Learn CSS Learn XHTML Learn Javascript Learn how to properly fuse the following into a working page Learn PHP Learn JAVA Learn how to use photoshop, really well you may want to be developing these skills simultaneously. Also, that order isn't fixed, it is just from simplest to hardest with a few small exceptions of course, learnign how to use PS really well isn't necessarily the hardest thing, it's just the icing, something you need to tie everything else together. I learned to code first... never went to far past XHTML and javascript though, just didn't have the resources to learn any more. I do want to learn PHP though, I hear it is fairly easy. ohh well, abusing frames is easier...
Im learning HTML. Id suggest doing that 1st. Then Try Pascal. Then get more technical like Javascript, CSS, and PHP
