I say "Slash" from Guns N' Roses, Snakepit, Velvet Revolver, and alot of other side projects with artists including Michael Jackson. He may not be the "best" at playing the guitar, but his style is very unique, great showmanship, and he was able to get his career back, which most people never do. So I would say either him or Tom Morello.

What about Gary Rossington? Guitarist for Lynyrd Skynyrd. The one who performed Free Bird.

John Petrucci is the man. Listen to Under A Glass Moon one of the best solos ever.

Flea is a bassist but if you thinking of John Frusciante he's pretty good.

it was a close run between Jimmy page and Frank zappa for me

    Frank Zappa is amazing

why wasnt david gilmour on there?

i kind of agree with you on that one. distortion and such. but i still think hendrix was one of the best guitar innovaters.

    TOM MORELLO!
