I'm NOT sure what to upgrade, but my comp does lag slightly in PC Games. And the lag when not playing games got worse also.

    My Comps Specs:
    GateWay IntelĀ® PentiumĀ® 4 CPU 2.60GHz (2 CPUs) 494MB RAM

If you cud help in anyway i appreciate it!!

hmm you will have poor upgradeablity with a brand pc as chances are the mobo has no gfx card slots. YOu would really have to upgrade mobo, cpu and gfx card.

What is your budget and I take it that your from the US?

ever since my 2.6ghz cpu burned out ive been using this replacement 1.6ghz and a Geforce 4 MX 64mb GFX card for 6 month now im not feeling much lag on use unless i play hardcore games such as D3, FEAR COD2 as such. i think you just have to keep your comp clean and remove any unused stuff on your HDD and get some performance enhancers and refresh your PC.

i suggest you do that first and if the lag really gets to you then spend your money on upgrades.

ignore this comment. All pc's come with at least 4 pci slots.

if you want to upgrade your pc simply stick a 512 stick of ram in there. to bump you up to 1 gb. also try to format your hard drives if you can.

Create a virtual drive using deamon tools. Put everything you dont want to lose in it. and format away....

Also try and get a decent graphics card. Made by ATI. no nvidia.

Yeah and PCI vid cards are soooo awesome  funny how you say no nvidia when in this generation nvidia has put out the better cards. Please stop being an ati fan boy.

ive looked at certain gateway comps with ur specs. urs might have an agp slot.

depending on how hardcore you are with gaming I would go for 9800 Pro ATI for a casual - intmed gamer. For fast graphics and high quality however... 6800 nVidia would be an upgrade

as for memory, its pretty cheap if it can handle PC3200. 1GB stick usually costs $100. I would get at least another 512mb.

as for me... id kinda go with a custom and take parts out of the old (hard drive, memory, cd, whatever) to use for the new. It helps and can cut down costs of a full brand new computer.

when you said you had two CPUs, did you mean it had HT or that ti was on a sever motherboard with two CPUs? Hyperthreading is far from having two CPUs FYI.

as for upgrades, I'd go for a 6800 if you have anout 180for the GFX card

also get mroe ram other than that you are fine. the 2.6GHZ P4s don't even have heating problems like the 3.0-3.8s do anyway so nyou really should be fone. don't OC it though, especially if you have northwood(ever hear of NDS, that's bad)

"Overclocking Northwood cores yielded a startling phenomenon. When VCore was pumped past 1.7v, the processor died. This occurrence has since been called "NDS," or Northwood Death Syndrome."

on the whole though you have a decent CPU though. again get PC3200 ram if the mobo supports dual channel ram get it if you can, P4s are really sensitive to the bandwidth and upping it helps a lot. though i do beleive that you'd onyl have 533mhz of FSB but still.

But there is no point in using 2 year old pci gfx cards as they offer little to no improvement over onboard.
