$3000+ is really expensive, especially for that comp. If you can spend that much money on a laptop, there's got to be something better out there, IMO. I'll look around, but maybe others see it differently

"Get a Dell Latitude C640 if you can find one."

That's what I was typing before I clicked the link.

I'm using one now. They're light, and small enough.

Mine works great, no problems going on my 5th year with it.

EDIT: lol, oops. Guess they're different. My bad. Anyways, this is what I was talking about:

if your budget is that high, I'd suggest waiting until dual core is out for laptops, which will be in like 6 months if intel delivers.

Here is what I DO suggest:
DO NOT GET ANYTHING WITH A NETBURST BASED PROCESSOR- nb drains battery life(and produces excessive heat) without giving any additional performance. Nb includes the following processors- Pentium 4s, Celeron Ds, Pentium Ds, P4 Extreme Edition, & PXE. Their clock speed may be higher(the GHZ) but about half of the clocks end up being wasted because nb is prone to making errors. PMs should be capable of outperforming P4s of 1.4* the clock speed for general use and 1.6 the Clock speed for gaming.

DO get a non netburst processor- PIII, PIIIm, Celeron M, PM(which is technically not too far from the PIIIs beleive it or not and outperforms P4s when OCed to use the same energy despite not being as developed) Athlon 64s, Turion 64s, if you can wait, try to get the laptop version of the Merom processor(dual core Pentium M)

    Do get dual channel ram

    Do get a 7200rpm Hardrive

Do get as good fo a screen as you can

    Do get the extended waranty

can't say much more. i couldn't really see the hardware specs of what you linked me too so....

EDIT: here is what a quick newegg search found me...
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16834224019

I am sure you could find one which has a 6800 witha little effort.

From what I herd hardly any programs make use of dual core so theres not a big point to getting one.

well if you are running a game, you will surely be running windows and all the other services associated with it. All the garbage can be put onto one CPU while everything else goes onto the other. trust me when i say that not every single thing isn a game is running graphics, their is also the physics engine to take care of.

a few things are multi threaded though... almost everything pertaining to multi media, 3d rendering, and some other stuff.

your money though, and FYI they won't be making single core procs any more for anything but lowend procs.
