i tried to patch up my windows update but it keep saying faulty cd key so i can't update anymore? is it reasonable to have sp2 anyways? what is so special about the,?
^yea thats the first thing^ well, sp2 is mainly for security issues, and also, when your computer boots u get a blue bar, and u dont get home edition or pro edition text you get pop up blocker, and this shield thats supposed to protect your computer in the task bar
I installed sp2 and now for some reason my cpu has become very lazy when i start my computer. So im now of the opinion that sp2 is evil. (has anyone else had that problem btw?)
Does anyone know if Microsoft has fully sorted the whole 'SP2 port-shutting' problem that plagued so many people for so long? I wouldn't know because I bought my laptop pre-loaded with XP SP2.
^As for as I know SP2 works fine, all the time. And to the OP who questioneded whether or not SP2 is needed, the answer is: YES. SP2 is the major patch for Windows, and it ensures many things such as tight security and crap-loads more. I reformatted my Computer not so long ago and had to reinstall SP2 and update everything, and now my Windows runs fine. I purchased a new copy of Windows XP Pro however for my new computer and its loaded with SP2 so that should kill the time for updates and patches ^_^ But you can just as well download SP2 off the official site. Regarding whether or not your Windows is legit you will need a real copy for it, unless you can download it from another source which I don't know.
Sp2 doesnt really do that much... and its +'s are equaled by -'s... people have problems with it. i havent had any though.
I have it and Have never had ANY problems, and my computer still goes just as fast. And i think it is a major security fix that you should get.
The only problem I encountered with SP2 FTP proplems, becuase back then I used IE to FTP things, and SP2 disabled that, so you then need to go re-enable it... which took me some time...
