Seeing as this is the first Gimp Tut here, can someone pin it? thanks

This tut is about creating a unique texture, that is a blend of grunge and plasma, i find it fun and useful, and it is the foundation for most of my best sigs. You can mess around with this idea, and change it to make it look better. Please do not rip it though, this was posted by me in 3 different forums already, and i dont want it in any more without my permission, here goes

    Part 1, the Base

    1. Open up a new sheet, i use 400x150
    2. Delete first layer
    3. Make new layer, Transparency
    4. Go Filters>Render>Plasma, Set turbulence on 7.0, new seed till u get what u want
5.Desaturate or Colorize to ur color, desaturate to make that the secondary texture, colirize to make it the dominant texture
    6. New Layer
    7. Render Plasma, .01 turbulence
    8. Colorize or desaturate, do the opposite of what you did first
    9. Set low turbulence on overlay
    10. Merge layers
    11. New layer
    12. Go Filters>Render>Nature>Flame
    13. Hit Edit, chose linear, and change speed and randominze till u get one u like
    14. Move the layer to bottom left hand corner, keeping as much flame onscreen as you can
    15. Set it on overlay, and colorize until it looks good
    16. Do steps 11-15 again with different seeds of flame until the BG covered in overlay flames, and your satisfied with the texture
    17. Merge all layers, Duplicate
    18. Set Duplicate layer on Overlay, colorize until satisfied, merge all layers

    Part 2, adding the color

    1. New Layer
    2. Select Gradient tool, use Gradient Burning Transparency
    3. Drag it over sideways over the darkest area, so that the fire goes straight up and down through it
    4. Set layer on overlay
    5. New layer
    6. select gradient black to white, and Drag from top to bottom
    7. Set layer on overlay, Merge Down
    8. Go to Layers>Color> Hue-Saturation
    9. Adjust setting to you liking
    10. Duplicate Layer
    11. Set duplicate on overlay, invert colors
    12. Color balance to your liking

    Part 3, The Texture Brushing

    1. New Layer
    2. Brush with one layer of black grunge, about 3 brushes
    3. Next Layer with White Grunge
    4. Third new layer with whit and black grunge, merge down grunge layers
    5. Partially erase with another grunge brush
    6. Duplicate 3 times, merge all down, redo step 5
    7. Redo steps 6-7 until satisfied
    8. Colorize to your choice of color

    Part 4, The Texture Enhancing

    1. Merge all layers
    2. New layer
    3. Render Flame, whatever texture you want
    4. Cover BG in flame, set all on burn, dodge, soft light, or multiply, depending on sig type
    5. Merge all layers
    6. New Layer
    7. Gradient black to white, drag gradient from darkest part of your sig to the brightest, set layer on overlay
    8. Duplicate Layer
    9. Motion Blur in any direction
    10. Set Motion blur on overlay, Screen, or Grain Extract, depending on sig type

    Part 5, Finishing touches

    1. Add Render
    2. Duplicate BG, Set on Overlay over render on whatever opacity and merge down
    3. Color Balance sig to blend into BG
    4. Duplicate, Guassian Blur or do any touches you want then set on overlay
    5. Render Plasma On 7.0 turbulence, desaturate and set over render with overlay
    6. Merge Down
    7. If your satisfied, Merge all layers

    Part 6, The TEXT

    1. Choose Text at Dafont.com, take the trufont out and put it into C:> Windows>fonts
    2. Freetype a Font in While onto the siggy, big enough to notice
    3. Hit layers>Transpareny> Alpha to selection
    4. Press control-I
    5. Script-fu Drop-shadow x:3 y:3 color black blur 4, deselect allow resizing
    5. Drop shadow 1x1 white no blur
    6. Colorize
    7. Duplicate BG, overlay on top of text then merge
    8. Set text on burn, dodge, grain merge, difference, addition, screen, or overlay in somewhere that fits it, expirament

Hope u liked it, took me like 30 minutes, good, quick, good looking sig

my outcome (sort of a quickie) [IMG]

Jesus, you like your red, don't you.

And i had Gimp for a day...then i deleted it and sent an angry e-mail at the gimp ppl for wasting moments of my life. My suggestion, get PS CS2 as quickly as possible, even thought it costs like a fortune.

i dont think this will be pinned anytime soon.. im not trying to be mean or anything but that tut looks pretty bad.. no pics and doesnt seem too good for people that have never used Gimp.. and i really doubt gimp is harder to use than PS..

I've had Gimp before i had PS and i was able to use it just fine. Just learn the basics more and don't overuse the same darkcolor everytime.

And it's not hard to get screenshots. Just open up a new document and just input the text and the step you just showed. Gimp is basicly just a watered down ps.

dont be so harsh on him guys, not many people use gimp, gimp isnt harder then photoshop but it dosnt have potential, i bet if this tut was for ps half of these posts would be reps, the tut looks pretty good but gimp is a bad program :\ its that simple
