ok sense im about to get somethings for my comp for christmas i want to make sure i get the right stuff, so i was wondering cuz my processor is Athlon xp 2800 462p sempron

would i be able to put in a mother board that is Athlon 64/Sempron

Do you want to build a whole pc. because you are really difficult to understand. One you said "Athlon xp 2800 462p sempron
" and athlon xp is completly different to a sempron. Secondly you go straight over to intel without explaining.

If you wish to build a whole pc tell us what its for and what your budget is.

Just say no lol, a 2800+ Athlon version isnt made in the socket 939 (what are usally AMD 64 bits mainbord) also the other mainboard with socket 745 (not sure about the right number) is also AMD 64 bit, but I think you have a socket A (462) so it wont work.

Conclusion, if you buy a new mainboard you must also get a new CPU

 

That is not always true. If you have a mother board crash and you buy one that can handle your processor then you dont have to buy a new processor as well as a new board. I have dont it before.

So to answer the question if you want to keep your proecessor you have to find a mother board that can hold your processor. If you are looking to get a different mother board then you will have to get a new procesor as well.

 

This 'conclusion' is meant for him, not in general, if you buy a new mainboard with a diffrent socket you must buy a new CPU aswell.
