I am looking at a Cheap-ish PC, and thinking or upgrading some of the components. But looking at the PC, it has integrated Graphics and sound. the GFX card is called "128MB Integrated ATI radeon Xpress Graphics" and i want to upgrade because i know its not very good. (sound card is not specified, just says integrated)
well, to the question... is it possible to upgrade the GFX and sound? like buy a new gfx and sound card? would it work okay? the PC says it has 1 spare (i think it was 1) PCI Express slot if that helps. i have tried to contact the makers but theres just some machine and it puts me on hold... any help?

and please dont say, build your own, or reccomend me to any sites or anything, i just want this question answered. :D
will give you a small 3 lettered word if helped!

You cannot add more PCI express slots. 1 PCI express slot will be able to support one PCI express graphics card. Not sure about sound cards since I use my intergrated audio anyways.

if it has one spare slot then yes you can upgrade, you just plug your monitor into the new gfx cards dvi/vga port and it will run through that.

And Sound cards dont run on pci-e so no need to worry about that i think.

they only run on PCI as far as I know. the old ones used ISA, but most computers now days dont have em.

Look for a motherboard with an intergrated 6100 or x300, search around on newegg. I know that msi, gigbyte and ECS all have a board out based on the x300.

it depends on the motherboard, my friend has a motherboard with integrated x200 GFX and it has a PCI-e slot so when the time comes, he is set.

yep, most all people do get a sound card, because the onboard sound is usually crappy.

I would suggest the Creative SB Live! if you can find it, it is a little old, but good and sturdy.

That also would depend on your motherboard.

If you can afford it, don't go with onboard anything. ;)

It's best to get a mobo with 2 PCI-e slots, and a regular PCI slot. And buy the sound, and video cards seperately.
