hey guys i got a computer that i want to re-format to the time when i purchased it about two years ago i think here is the info that i need for it: Microsoft Windows XP Home edition (version 2002) (service pack 2) Dell Dimension 8200 Intel® Pentium® 4 CPU 1.80GHz 1.79 GHz, 512 MB of RAM 80GB Hardrive space so yeah i was wondering how can i get this computer back to the time wnen i bought it about two years ago ??? i know that we can use the cd to get it back but i lost that re-format cd if anyone knows a way that i can get it back into that old condition i will redally appriciate it ^_^ so yeah any help at all -Ali
i dont think i have that cuz i bought this computer from my friend and he didnt give me any of the discs so i was wondering if i can reformat it from the internet or manually?
hmmm well the Dell should have a winXp serial sticker on the side. if you can get ahold of a winxp disc you can reformat and reinstall XP. if it doesnt i think your gonna have to go buy some variant of windows or you can load linux on it.
well i dont know where to get a winxp disc to reformat my computer i asked dell's tech support and they said that they dont give out re-format discs for dell dimension 8200 anymore but i do have a strange cd it says the following on its cover Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server Microsoft Genuine Built on NT Technology from what i think that is a Windows 200 cd which i dont want so yeah any other help!
try booting from that disc and seeing if it will let you atleast reformat your HDD. does that computer have a serial number sticker thing on it?
it has an assest tag and an express service code i think that that disc will let me reformade my harddrive but then it will make my computer into the lowsy windows 200 edition? but i need windows xp home edition???
well you can use it to just reformat your hdd. thereby clearing eveyrthing off of it. so then if you get an XP disc you can load up XP. or you could go ahead and just load up 2000 on it for now.
are you currently using your 8200? or is it just a computer you have laying around and you want to get it working? if its your current one your using i suggest you just wait til you can get a XP pro or home edition disc. because i really dont know what that disc would do.
yup i am currently using my dell dimension 8200 well...isnt there a way online where i can get the disc or the stuff i need to reformat or is there a way by which i can reformat by had and not loose any of my drivers or other stuff??????????
nope unless you save your stuff onto another drive or disc. when you reformat you just delete everything including your OS so you need your OS cd to reinstall it back on.
well i have saved every thing / all of my documents/stuff onto three cd's in zipped files and i have some crappy stuff on this computer that i dont want and just want to delete that stuff but i am not that good in knowing what is good or bad for this computer so if i delete all of the programs onto this computer i might delete some stuff that i need on this computer so that is why i opened up this topic to see that if anyone has a cd or something online which can help me get this computer re-formated so i can get it back in the way with all of the drivers and stuff that this computer came with when i bought it ^_^ so yeah
yupp ask your friend if he has any of his discs. you need to buy an XP disc and reformat and reinstall Windows. then XP should automatically pick up all your drivers if it doesnt just go dl them from www.driversguide.com
well my dad said that the kids that he tutors just got a xp so he can get me a reformat disc from them but if that disc doesnt come with all of the drivers how do i find out that what drivers does my computer have so once i reformat my hdd i can install the drivers manually from dell.com so yeah
