I'm trying to place text over a portion of a web page. I can think of otherways to do this but they arn't really options.

I'm using dreamweaver to draw a layer over the section of page I want the text to appear. However since layers consist of absolutely positioned elements when the browser window size is changed the layer is anchored to top left when calculating its position and it offsets from where I wanted it. Any suggestions?

try using it in a table wth no border. I read your posts several times, and still do not know what you are asking...

    that could work

and i hate layers in dw, because like you said they move around in certain browsers and stuff, u can always move the layer to the wrong position in dw, so that it shows up correctly in IE or FF

yeah but if their screen rez is less or greater then yours it'll be off again. or if they don't browse maximized ...its off.

as far as tables go it worked

    ....however

what if there is too much text in that table cell? it streches it and crams in the text but your layout got off because of it. suggestions for a scrolling text option within the table cell? I could have sworn I've seen a simple HTML way of nesting a browser window inside of another one without it being a frame.

it does but when the length gets too long it will stretch out the cell height and then you start to see the background repeat and it throws off the rest of the layout of the webpage.

The original I'm working with was a picture sliced up with photoshop and saved for the purpose of being a webpage. I'm linking the menu icons of that page to a portion of the page where the content is supposed to change. Right now its just a slice of the original picture which makes it impossible to place text on top of.

So using your advice I made a table on that very spot and turned the graphic that was there into the background graphic for that cell so I could write on top of it. Still when the text gets too long it will stretch the cell and throw everything out of wack.

i used to have the problem, but found the solution

first u go about making ur site just like u want to
then u take the sidebars and content box and whatever is repeating and go into photoshop and make it repeat in there so its seamless then save it as the orginal image name u already had it at
