Ok I have been having this problem with CS, actually CS2 but it started back in CS. I should also say that this is not a problem with my computer to my knowledge because it only happens in CS and only if you do this certan thing. Its not "how do you do this..." quiestion, its how do i keep it from not screwing up. Problem seems to stem from when the mouse hits the main picture/editing screen. In a nutshell its very difficult for me to "left-click" and edit the picture. Most times it won't work. And yes i know enough to not edit a layer that is locked or anything easy like that. Its when it changes focus. I can click on the tool bars fine, it will change from selection box to brush to pencil to clonestamp to zoom all fine. Even the other boxes... like layers and the styles window. The problem is when I have move "mouse focus" to the main window and edit some, if I move it off then I can't edit again. I have to double click the layer and open up the layer styles screen then close and go back to editing. Its really weird. Another example. I click on a tool then enter the editing window from the left side and it will catch the side where you can shrink/grow the window horizontally and then the double sided arrow icon is what shows up in the middle of my pic instead of say the brush icon and I now can't edit my pic till I double click layer styles and close the new window (the only shortcut i've tried that will make it work appart from closing CS2 and starting over. Oh I should point out I can rightclick on the picture and get a popup menu for whatever tool i have selected but it won't let me leftclick and edit.

Untill i get this fixed I have to select a tool, double click the layer to bring up layer styles window and then close it and quickly move the mouse to the editing window. It sucks....any suggestions?

Yeah its a bit drawn out up there. Basicly I can't brush on my pictures, or do anything to them for that matter, untill I double click on they layers to bring up the layer styles menu window then close it out again. Then I can use that one tool, and if I want to switch to another one I have to select the tool then bring up a new window (like layer styles) then close it and now i can use a new tool. Otherwise i can't leftclick and edit the picture.

are you trying to brush on a image layer or one that has been rendered/cut out from here before because usually if it's a regular image you can't brush on it until you double click and rename...you can't brush on the image, it's either brush over them or under them using layers until you do the double click b/c it's a background image i take it

For somereason (mindboggling to me) it seems to be working ok for now. I see what your saying stan but I didn't think that would be the case so I opened up CS and as of now I'm failing to recreate my problem. Which is the mindboggleing part because its be going on for so long.

...I think its toying with me.

If it does it again, try an update...that should solve it.
