So my problem is that i want to do port forwarding on my main computer, but i have a dsl modem and a netgear router (for wireless connection). i found a site that explains how to do port forwarding, but for both my modem and router...so i was wondering what do i port forward? oh and i'm only doing this for the bitcomet program.

    thanks in advance...Kira

It depends on which program you are using as to which ports to forward but some allow you to choose for yourself. I would reccomend Azureus with safepeer and autospeed plugins. And yes you will need it forwarded to get the best speeds. Once you get azureus with the plugins forward your ports to 50200 or higher. Please let me know if you have any more problems.

Actually, port forwarding CAN increase speed, if the firewalls blocking the port it uses...

On some games, if you wan't to host a server / connect to others, you need specific ports open. Quick google search usually tells you which ports you need open, or game manual.

you would portforward the router, not the modem. To do that, you should be able to type 192.168.1.1 into your browser and be able to access the router settings. There should be something about forwarding in there.
